i wasn't stuck guruing today...not sure why, maybe she's done...hopefully...anyway, not too coincidentally i finished reading The Death of Ivan Ilych and Other Stories by Leo Tolstoy...it's a book i tried to read many years ago and quit halfway through the first story 'cuz i did not like it at all...well, i gave it another shot and i'm glad i did...the first story ("Family Happiness") was still not good but the other three were pretty good...not quite the reversal of opinion when i reread Absalom, Absalom! but another not total write-off...

There is a boy at work who reminds me of you (same build, same hair, quite pale) and he wears Converse on Fridays and has gay band shit up in his cubicle but I am too shy to talk to him.
I bet if you worked with me I would never talk to you.

hey, well i probably wouldn't talk to you either! i'm generally regarded at my workplace as "that guy that doesn't ever talk"...more or less...and he only wears converse on fridays? what a pansy! i'm so cool i don't even have any kind of other shoes!

Robert never talks to anyone at work. He's got a reputation as That Guy Who Won't Give You The Time Of Day, But Seems Mysterious And Cool. i only found this out after people discovered we were together and were all like "omg what is the secret?!!! how the hell did you get him to acknowledge you?!!" it turns out there are some ladies at work who think he is teh hottness (one even cited his converse as why, and another called him "model handsome," hahaha), and were jealous and had their curiosity piqued who just had to ask me how i pulled it off.

and before we got together, even though i was totally his roommate and coworker, Robert never talked to me. one time i even did this thing at work where you take over another worker's call, and i was taking his over, and i was like "hey it's you!" when i got to his desk, and he didn't say a word and later when i asked him what was up with that he told me he didn't even realize it was me, he was so in his own world.

Well we have a dress code... business casual Monday through Thursday, and then casual fridays. Since Converse are, in theory, athletic shoes, they can only be worn on Fridays.

At my work I think I'm The Idiot Who Left California. Some people call me "San Diego."

My job requires me to talk to co-workers, though most of the time I would prefer not to.

I didn't really make any friends at work in California until after working there for about 5 years. Hmm.

Maybe I'll email that guy or something. I don't even know what to say or how to say "Hi, I noticed that you wear Converse and like Radiohead and Brian Jonestown Massacre" without sounding like a creep.
