friday the offered unlimited overtime at work...so fuck i couldn't pass it up...AND shortly into my shift i somehow by the grace of god was in trs! so i signed up to work straight til midnight, five extra hours...and i stayed in trs all night...it was totally awesome too...not only did i get the extra money (and they almost never offer overtime anymore) but the day they do is the day i happen to be in trs (which i haven't been in in well over a year...thought they might not even have anyone in it separately anymore...) so it was all day of being slow and no fraud and no pranks...and the day just flew by...read a lot...it was totally sweet...and i couldn't've done it without Mary Beth! who brought me some food for dinner (as the extra time only warrants another 15 minute break...not enough time to go get food which i obviously didn't have since i didn't plan it...) after i called and begged her so that was awesome...

yesterday Mary Beth and i went down to Oxford, MS again...of course to revisit Rowan Oak (William Faulkner's home...) it was once again nice...we walked the trail path all the way through the woods to the University Musuem, which was a surprise at how awesome it was...the first part was this exhibit of these 19th century scientific equipment thingies...lots of stuff for experimenting with optics and some astronomy stuff and some early electromagnetic stuff...then right after that was a collection of like Grecian urns and Roman busts...a small room of modern art (there were two Man Ray paintings...a Kurt Vonnegut drawing...) and a few other random type things...the featured, non-permanent-looking exhibit was by this artist who pretty crappy but he had this statement on the wall i guess offering explanation of his work and it was really pretentious and funny...that was the only thing about the museum that was lame at all...oh, anyway, the day we come just happens to be the day of some arts festival...so the whole town's swarming with people walking around (well, except inside Rowan Oak of course) and of course the festivities are going to be centered around the town square which is where the good bookstore is (not that i know of any other bookstores in that town...but it is a good one for any town...) well, we though why not try out this festival thingie anyway since we'd be there anyway and uh, why not...there were two stages at opposite ends of the square, each showcasing bad festival (i.e. mostly bad blues) music...first we went to the bookstore(s)...Off Square Books first (where they have the used and discount stuff) and i got a bargain shelf copy of The Double by José Saramago...then to Square Books where i got: The Wild Palms [If I Forget Thee, Jerusalem] by William Faulkner, Summer in the Termuren by Louis Paul Boon, and The Mystery of the Sardine by Stefan Themerson...the latter two i hadn't heard of but they're published by Dalkey Archive and the descriptions/reading the beginnings and random excerpts looked promising so i got 'em and i like getting good stuff by people i'd never heard of...anyway, then we wandered around the square...at this time it's getting to be late in the afternoon and a lot of the booths are closing down...i think all of the art booths were closing down, but we weren't interested in that anyway...we walked around scoping out the FOOD booths! the centerpiece of any good festival/fair...and even some of the food booths were closing down...and the one we got our main meal-food at (this afro-cuban stand): well as we're eating our food i looked around and there they are disassembling the rig...some good timing i guess...anyway it was a pretty swell time...even though the crowd was chock-full of jackasses...and as Oxford is not much more than Ole Miss, it was even more overflooded with frat dudes than your usual festive atmosphere...but we got some swell food and books regardless...anyway...
