went to a show last night with Mary Beth...at Murphy's...a coworker told her about it and she was supposedly playing in one of the bands (though she wasn't...even though she was there...) but the first band was The Boston Chinks and the drummer's that Billy guy that i know and is pretty cool...they were not...i'd never heard 'em before but they were about what i'd guess...Rock And Roll®...sound just like every band in memphis...it was just really boring...next was a band from france whose name i forget (something like Magnetics?) they were also rock'n'roll, but they weren't too bad for what they were...for the most part they sounded like all these bands in memphis, but occasionally there was a moment of not complete blandness...they were a two-piece (following White Stripes formula...but i think it worked in their favor having so little instrumentation...) the singer/guitarist jumped across the "stage" at the end of every song...he also cursed a lot in a thick french accent that i couldn't even distigush as curing until later when Mary Beth told me so..."memphis is great cocksucker fuck!" something like that, i think...for the last song or two he detuned his strings so they were in a tuning but the strings were real loose and sounded cool...they had reverb on all the vocals (a la Cramps...) anyway...i had ursurpsed the jukebox and the night was over when the dude who's in Guacos and does the sound skipped ahead to the next track only 10 minutes into "Space Is the Place"...and when we saw Guacos setting up and coworker wasn't among their ranks (i guess she had just set up the show or something 'cuz she was the one collecting money...) we left before they started...tonight i finished that really short story for this stupid contest...i didn't write it for the contest (which is for bedroom makeover type thing...similar to my writing "Across the Street and into the Bushes" for their "greatest love story" competition...) as an excuse to get me to get something written...it's really really short...amusing, i guess...i'll probably post it later...we'll see...i'm in stage 2 of my cold...now it's my sinuses...nothing had been working...i had regular cold stuff, then i got a decongestant after work...it wasn't working either...so later i took a double dose...now i'm thinking that was a bad idea...my head feels kinda funny...hm...
