thanks to a random, completely unrelated post by [livejournal.com profile] daigor0 last night i was inspired to pick up with that story i'd been working on and hadn't touched in months...so i was up 'til godass late and i finished it! (at least as far as a first draft goes)...so i was happy about that...then today Amber accompanied me shopping and i finished up the last little bit i had left...all done! while doing all that junk i picked up a couple books for me as well: Sputnik Sweetheart by Haruki Murakami and The City and the Pillar by Gore Vidal...then we ate at the Petra place...neither of us had been and it was frickin' great...i had this korean dish that makes me take back some of the stuff i'd said about korean food in the past...now here comes the sad part...when i woke up today i noticed Lacey is starting to go in heat...not full-on yet, but there was a small amount of red on the sheets...so i hung on to the dogs as long as i could and then took 'em back to my parents'...as much as i hate taking 'em back early, with Mario in the house and having to walk the dogs around the neighborhood multiple times a day, i'm not in the best position to keep a dog that's in heat and i didn't wanna just take Lacey back 'cuz that would have broken her heart...so i miss 'em and am very sad to be all alone now...but i guess that's what's gotta be...but i guess that's all for now...

did you have the bibimbap? cause i like their version better than asiana's. i forget if they offer kalbi (the sweet rib rack version of bulgogi/mongolian beef barbecue basically). mm kalbi.

it's sweet you didn't want lacey to be all alone. the apartment seems sad now without dogs shuffling about.

also, since i'm just rambling in this post's comments anyway: what the hell, i'm troubled that you think that icon is the most appropriate for talkin' about bibimbap. hrm!

duh! this icon isn't for talking about THAT, it's for talking about Ella Fitzgerald...duh!

when you get around to reading the murakami, you should let me know what you think of it. it was my introduction to him, and i was left so unimpressed and therefore bewildered by his hype that it was years til i picked up another title by him (it was worth it...the wind up bird chronicle really is that good, and so is norwegian wood). i just didn't get it, and i wish someone would explain to me what i'm missing there.

of the ones i've read Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World is my favorite...haven't read any i don't like yet...The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle was my introduction to him so maybe having formed a high opinion of him from the start will stand in the way as a bias against disliking him so much...i haven't disliked anything i've read by him so far, though of course i've liked some of his books better than others...

i mean it's my own fault for making it my introduction to him...it reminds me of this one friend i have from high school who told me he was trying to get into kurt vonnegut and chose galapagos as his introduction. galapagos! fucking a. it's not really any different i don't think. i was just clueless at the time, y'know? i was at the library, "it was there...," etc.

i want to find my next big epic story to love and look forward to curling up with after a long day soon. it's been too long.

i haven't read Galapagos...i take it that's not his best...i chose Cat's Cradle as my introduction (found it at a thrift store..."it was there...") and it didn't do a whole lot for me (not that i disliked it...just fell short of uh...something...) somewhat recently i finally got around to reading Breakfast of Champions...i liked that better...of course, i read Cat's Cradle quite a few years ago...perhaps i'd think differently now? not that i disliked it...

well you know what it's like. like reading vineland and then dismissing all those pynchon fans for their love of, say, gravity's rainbow or the crying of lot g (without having read those, just vineland "because it was there" ;). just shows a lack of comprehension of the bigger picture. i think pittsburgh alumni michael chabon has this problem all the time...anyway, if i put it in music terms i bet you'd be get peeved to the right proportions. ;)

you've seen the movie for slaughterhouse-five, have you not? i forget. it's sort of dork sci-fi-y aesthetic wise, the colors and pacing and whatnot, the same way the fahrenheit 451 adaptation is, that whole 60s-70s nerdy cinematic feel. but it's ok.

speaking of nerds, or dorks or whatever, you're in the room right next to me but we're talking this way. i'm a dork.

49! not g! where is my mind. don't make some smarmy comeback to that rhetorical question.

yeah, i know what you're talking about, i just didn't know Galapagos wasn't supposed to be so good...

the thing with books though, compared to music, is if you get a bad first impression with a book, that's a lot harder to break...'cuz it doesn't take long to listen to another record by the same band to change your opinion...in some cases it wouldn't even take 5 minutes...it takes forever to read a goddamned book, though...

i haven't seen Slaughterhouse-Five...though oddly Amber was talking about it a few days ago...i haven't seen Fahrenheit 451 either...

and yeah...the text is already here...it's so much easier than getting up and walking a few feet...ay!

Yo La Tengo tricked you with their song that has nothing to do with the book...(reading the book surprised me a little 'cuz after the song i was expecting it to be all crying about relationships or something...i like the song, but i liked the book better...)
