my day started off w/ me going to the post office and picking up a package which contents included (well, were, since it was the only thing in it) Faust: The Wümme Years 1970-73...a box of 5 discs of pure (kraut)rock...a little later i went and paid rent at the practice space and picked up my paycheck...then i met my mom at my grandmother's house where i hung out for a little while...then off i went to the show...i'm a bit disappointed in Jacques and Brad for flaking out and not showing up as they said they would...Dora was the first band...they were pretty crappy...there are a few elements of good stuff floating around in there, but overall it's just glossy, corporate rock shite...they should spend less time on trying to look all rockin' and deep...and spend more time not sucking...MTV'd eat them up though...that is if bands like that weren't just a drop in the ocean...The Potomac Accord were next...and they were very good...they played a full set of 4 songs...(bands w/ long songs know where it's at, by golly...) as i got there pretty early i talked to the singer guy beforehand briefly...and spent over an hour sitting at a booth by myself...i bought two comps they had for sale: Foreign Nationals (an Arborvitae Records compilation) and The Nouve (a Smoothma Muse compilation)...the last band was The Klutes...they were somewhat a cross between surf and math rock...MX-80 meets Don Caballero sort of...they still managed to be terrible...they were all goofy and doing this fake cock stuff...maybe i would have found it amusing on some other night...who knows...to their credit though, they (honest to god) did a Vinnie Vincent Invasion cover...afterwards i talked to the band (The Potomac Accord, the one i came to see) a little more...they were looking for a place to stay, heh...being in a band and having been on the road (albeit not w/ the band...but i do plan/hope for that in the future...) i am sympathetic to their cause...Brad had mentioned something about that last night...too bad he didn't even bother showing up...i left and went around the corner to his house to ask him about it but he had already gone to bed...when i got back they had managed to secure a place w/ one of the other bands or someone they know or something...answering the "how's the band going?" questions were fun...hopefully my predictions of the leaf being turned around or whatever will manifest themselves soon...wait, no hoping...they will come true, by darnit! afterwards i went by the practice space to play around...work w/ my pedals some...to get back a feel for 'em and such...i also jammed out on the drums...i was doing something pretty cool w/ Brad's snare as well as my own...this march cadence type of thing...it kind've sounded like to deuling snare players or something...maybe it could be used for the band...though i don't know if it's too drum soloy...i guess we'll see...also, two problems i see: the grounding in the space sucking ass so badly and a speaker "in" my amp being blown (which not too badly, it does detract from the sound at times...some times worse than others...) if these problems could be resolved, sounding better would happen somewhat...i don't have any answers...just kind've reflecting on the problems...
