The Family Ghost: show #3
May. 26th, 2002 03:48 pmnow comes the joyous task of catching up w/ 3 days straight of sheer ballstompitude...or something...thursday morning i got a call from Consignment and my Silvertone was ready early...so after The Simpsons i went and picked it up...we were hoping to rehearse some before the show, but Paul didn't get off of work in time...David was super-helpful in assisting us w/ transporting gear in his suv of deth...Justin" and Priko were w/ him and helped roadie as well...not only were we not able to rehearse before the show, but we were also running behind for getting there at 9 as we were "supposed" to...(that asshole Chris Walker didn't even fucking respond to my email when i fucking asked him when we needed to be there anyway...) Brad only found out from calling them that afternoon...Paul arrived and we hurried over to the Map Room...it was pretty cool 'cuz Brad and i got there in like 10 min from the space, taking glorious North Parkway downtown...a street to crush many'a ballz...after everyone else arrived and we were getting everything set up, Chris Carter, the dickhead "sound-man," after "soundchecking" us w/ the vocals and bass drum through the p.a. (why the bass drum, i don't know, it was pretty stupid sound checking that...) he said "okay you have 30 min. . . you were late" what the fuck!? (we were barely late and it's not like Map Room shows EVER start "on time"...and we were even nice boys by calling them before we left, letting them know we were on our way...) so in that moment of brief panic we jumped into playing an abridged set...we were worried about getting cut off and already not being able to play everything so we didn't get to test the levels of the amps and all...and consequentially the sound was pretty bad...the Marshall was too loud and you could hardly hear the bass the whole show...(we did SOME adjustment work durring the set, but it didn't really help too much...) here's the setlist:
Wash
Taken
the one Jacques sings but as of yet doesn't have a title...
The Great War
we cut out This Never Happened and Slow Autumn so it'd fit in 30 min or whatever...fuck-head...at one point durring "Taken," Brad's glasses fell off so he had to stop and put 'em back on...it was pretty funny...also, like dumbasses, we forgot to bring the glockenspiel mallets so on the untitled song, we attempted to substitute w/ regular drumsticks but that didn't work very well and you couldn't hear it so Brad just walked off stage and went upstairs to get a beer...i thought it was pretty amusing...and that Chris guy was definately fucking w/ us what little he could...i could hear my vocals very well on "Taken" but i couldn't hear 'em at all on "The Great War"...stupid cocksucker...overall i'd say the show was alright...the main problem was the fucking amp levels being all fucked-up...oh well, hopefully when we play again, hopefully in the not-too-distant future, we'll be able to have that problem down...Keith was actually there...it was cool seeing him again...i met Kerry at the show as well...The Secret Machines were pretty good, even though they made fun of us and called us "The Ghost Family"...we're better than them though, even though they've mastered the complex functions of volume knobs...i'll stop here for the time being as i must get ready for work now...rock on, Memphis...
