Mary Beth and I were going to do her birthday event thing, which was go to a screening of The Lady Eve at the Brooks but then we got there and it was cancelled for some reason and being replaced with the friggin' Barbie Movie. So that plan was dashed but then we went up to Black Lodge to swap out movies. I'd gotten a text from them the other day that our movies were "past due". Never heard anything about time limits or anything and when we checked out our next batch we got a vague kinda answer. So I guess there's kinda a soft limit but just don't keep them for like a really long time? But then went home and had a good low-key birthday. At night I went up to the Lamplighter to see a movie screening. Finally got to one of Billups's movie nights. It was Enter the Clones of Bruce, a documentary about what it says: Brucesploitation and the fake Bruce Lee movies. I wasn't sure how much it'd just be a rehash of the bonus stuff on that Bruce Lee box set, but it gave a unique insider perspective on the whole phenomenon. The good bulk of it was interviews with the Bruce Lee clone actors themselves and other people who worked on these. But it especially gave focus to Bruce Li, Dragon Lee, and Bruce Le (not to mention Bruce Liang and Bruce Lo). So it was really entertaining and a well-done documentary, I thought. And here are a couple things that didn't get mentioned in my last post. Mary Beth noticed before I went to bed on Saturday night that the shorts I was wearing were ripped. So I probably ripped them while bowling and got to show everyone my underwear. Nice and not embarrassing! Also this year was the first year I didn't get an automated birthday email from "Sonic Youth gossip" the SY message board I was on so long ago and just kept getting a happy birthday email a little after 10 pm the night before my birthday. I guess it's all finally gone down. I hadn't been in forever and ever but I guess I enjoyed getting those emails as a little blast from the past. End of an era...
