Bowling Party
Jul. 21st, 2024 09:37 amI went and picked up a cake quick-like from the grocery store before we went. Then we went and got to Billy Hardwick's for the bowling party. We got there a little early and waited for everyone to show up. A nice crowd turned out for it! We had three lanes and it was the perfect size. Lots of bowling and I did badly but then started to do pretty okay. I got quite a few strikes. Mark was the first to take advantage of the jukebox. Then Jacques put in some songs and then I did! I started to put in a bunch of AC/DC and I put in four songs ("Thunderstruck", "Squealer", "Let Me Put My Love into You", and "Hells Bells") and was just going to use all my credits on them, but Mary Beth said I should pick some other music too. So I looked down at my Sonic Youth shirt and decided yeah, okay, so I put in two Sonic Youth songs ("(She's in a) Bad Mood" and "Teen Age Riot") and then one Yo La Tengo song as Karl was wearing their shirt ("Little Honda"). And we got to hear them so it was magical. And really, when the AC/DC songs came on my streak of better bowling really kicked in. (I mean, it was probably just that nice spot in the middle where I've just started to get used to bowling and get that muscle memory back on track and before my wrist starts to get tired and a little sore and the my performance curve starts to go back down towards the end. But it's fun to think that "Thunderstruck" pumped me up into high gear.) Anyway, it was a lot of fun and all the people seemed to mostly have a bunch of fun. David and Phoebe got me a gift (I forgot to look at it while we were there as it was before everyone arrived and I was distracted and anxious about that, but I looked at it later). They got me Apotropaic Beatnik Graffiti by Mark Mothersbaugh, an art book with this picture of an eye on every page with different slogan-y words scrawled around each drawing (hence the "graffiti", I guess!) and it comes with a flexi 7" (so, ooh!). So that was awesome. It was fun to see Karl and Gretchen be all pros and they used to play in leagues and stuff. And it was fun to see everyone, I don't just see and hang out with people enough. Mary Beth had made gift bags to give out to everyone and I think they had fun with those. Josh and Molly were the last lingering when it was over and we went and got dinner together. We went to Tomboli's which Mary Beth and I had never been to. Then at night we stepped outside and hung out with Peanut for a little bit. Now I'm up and it's my birthday (though we kinda switched the "celebrations" with my thing being yesterday's bowling and hers being something we're doing today).
