A Street Named Glenview
Sep. 4th, 2022 09:24 amI did a little drive yesterday inspired by Mary Beth's reading to me from this book about "Outlaw Marriages" (mostly about famous artists and their queer relationships). The chapter on Tennessee Williams and Frank Merlo mentions when Williams stayed with his grandparents for a time in Memphis and that being the reason for his name change (it wasn't just a pen name, he legally changed his name to Tennessee...I'm also seeing mentioned online a lot that it was because his father was from Tennessee (east) but he was very fond of his grandparents and did not get along with his father at all, so I think the story of it coming from the times with his grandparents in Memphis makes the most sense...or at least maybe both). Anyway, I'm not a Tennessee Williams obsessive or anything, I like his work but I've only read the two big ones (and it was back in school...I should read more!), but I found this pretty interesting so looked up the house and found it and also found a house where his first produced play (when he was staying with his grandparents in his twenties) was held by a small local theater group. So my drive was to see those houses, the former on Snowden and the latter on Glenview. Nothing major, they looked like the pictures online but it was fun to drive by. I was surprised to discover that the house on Glenview where the play was performed has a historical marker for it. I didn't stop and read it at the time (it's a small neighborhood street and it's someone's house and all) but I saw it and looked it up later when I got home. I would have first expected something like that from the grandparents' home where he lived but it was cool to see.
Okay! So later in the evening I worked on music, that piece I was working on last weekend. I recorded the other half of the background sounds. I had to do twice as much bouncing this time as the number of tracks is fewer! (Yes, simple arithmetic!) So now all I have left to do is...the foreground! Later at night Mary Beth and I watched some more Seinfeld. There ya have it.
