ateolf: (the goat...BITCH!)
So yesterday morning I did get a little bit more sleep in, making myself not too tired for the rest of the day. Mary Beth and I trimmed Trudy's dewclaw on the one paw, the one that's long and curves into her pad. That went well and hopefully we've kept it from bothering her! I did get a little practice in before the show. Okay, so then the show! I got up to the space a bit early as I had a more complex setup than usual. But I think it was perfect timing. Got everything set up. Scott let me use some cymbal stands to mount my audience-participation leaf-mics on. When the "doors" opened and before the show started, I recorded two tracks onto my cassette four track machine of the room and people hitting on the installation and stuff (this would get played back during my set). Okay, so Scott played first as Mirren. It was his first live show playing solo electronics and he was really good! Artificer was up next and was incredible as always. The drone layers would come in and interfere with the others and create these nice beats and interruptions. I was last. People seemed into it. So I had the extra-stuff set up in kind of a two-fold approach. First was the four track tape I mentioned earlier, that played back (for half the set, then I flipped it over to play it again backwards). Then I had the four stands with the leaf-mics (Scott's sculpture installation mostly consists of a bunch of these plastic leaves with contact mics in them that are amplified, I borrowed four of them to set up on stands). So I had these running into my mixer and into my modular. So people were pretty consistently hitting on them and making lots of sounds. Beforehand, I wasn't really sure how much people would actually use them, but it was a pretty consistent barrage throughout the whole set. Mostly it was pretty cacophonous though at a point towards the two-thirds mark or so someone (or someones) was getting very rhythmic and then I joined in and started playing a beat on my modular that was going along with it. I haven't listened back yet, so we'll see how it all sounds. Hopefully not too cluttered. It was the one time during a set I "stopped" and video recorded the audience (or anything) as there was something else other than me to look at. Anyway, it was a fun show and people were nice and the music was good and I had a good time. Yeah!
