Found Readings

I finished reading The Lost Writings by Franz Kafka yesterday. All very short things, often very fragmentary, but such a great pleasure to read. All very Kafka and often offering great shards of depth. Probably a for-fans-of-only affair, but it was a nice, quick joy for me to read. So nice to still be able to read new-to-me things from someone with such a relatively small output so long ago. Mary Beth and I picked up some Fino's for lunch again and that was good, of course! I did something really dumb yesterday. So I was leaving a room and turning around the corner and did one of those half-motions where I thought I'd just take another look back into the room I'd just left but in doing so messed up my motion and ended up slamming my foot into the wall pretty hard. Ended up bruising my left middle toe pretty bad. Haven't been able to walk too well since. I mean, it's not the worst thing and mostly it's fine, but still. The landlord came over with pest control people yesterday afternoon. It was a pretty quick affair. Guy just came around spraying here and there mostly in the corners of the baseboards and behind things. I picked up Trudy and held her when he came into the bedroom. She of course didn't love it, but wasn't too cranky about it. I gave her some nice neck rubs. I think the main thing they were doing was in the basement because a rat or something was seen in the basement next door (possibly due to all the dog shit since they just let their dogs wander around the back to do their business, maybe?). I met Mary Beth in the park. The weather was very lovely. She had walked and I walked a little but couldn't too much because of my foot (this was before I'd seen the extent of the bruising, which again isn't all that bad but I guess more bruising than I typically see, which is none). At night we played some more Dominion Menagerie. This time we used one of the recommended starter sets and it went pretty well. We ended the night spending some time looking at the sky outside and talking in the semi-cold.
