ateolf: (the goat...BITCH!)
It was a really awesome show last night! Got there early and set up the sub and that went alright. Annabelle and Jerome got there not too much later and set up and talked a little bit. They seemed quite nice. They spoke English pretty well, but they didn't always understand perfectly and would ask to repeat things and it was kind of adorable. I sound checked as well and was very happy with the bass sound I had going against the sub. I mean, it was insane and I could feel the stage vibrating under my feet and I was even more excited for my set...

Paul Vinsonhaler was up first and his set was really great (okay again, everyone's was great, but I'll probably say that a few more times). It was just slightly more lo-fi sounding than when I'd seen him before (and definitely not a bad thing!). Next was my turn. Here's where things went a little sour. So the thing that happened with my Monorocket case the last time I played the Hi-Tone where the power kept going out over and over...well, that happened again tonight! Not during my soundcheck or before my set or anything, only after I was playing. So that was fun. Needless to say, my set did not go at all as planned. I kept trying to push past it but then I was starting to have a thing where two shows were going to almost sound the same due to the constant beeeooowww electric appliance shutting down sound. Then I tried to push forward switching to just using the one case and did that a little while but the range of sounds that only used the one case and not the other (a lot of my sounds were reliant on both) wasn't that vast and it was starting to sound a bit dry pretty quickly. Then I tried to see if anything was salvageable and I managed to get the deep drone that was there for the subwoofer going (seemed to work with one of my out cables switched to a jack in the other case). Well, that was really I needed, to take advantage of the fuckin' sub I'd rented. So I pretty much just rode on that drone once I got it working where I could again. And so in so far as that goes, it was fine. I mean, that deep fucking bass drone did just sound great. I did good in that regard. Before I got that bass tone working, I was half getting ready to just quit my set and face that it wasn't working, but I'm glad a little bit of rearranging at least got the most important thing going again. But there was so much I had that I didn't even get to use. I'll probably record it at home while I've got the patch still available.

So next was Annabelle Playe and she was great! It was a little hard to concentrate at first 'cuz I was so discombobulated after playing such a weird set where so much went wrong, but I was able to allow myself to get reabsorbed in the music. Ihcilon was last and he was great as always! He spent a good time bowing some metal rods and that was awesome. I will also say, goddamn that sub was awesome. Makes me want to always play with a subwoofer! Well alas, just taste that sweet nectar as the fruit fleetingly passes through your hands. A pretty good crowd showed up too. Wasn't sure at first but after I finished my set there were more people than had been there before! And there were even a few people I don't even know so that's cool. Was able to cover the rental and even give Annabelle some money. I mean, it wasn't a huge crowd but for us it wasn't too bad.

Afterwards, Jacques gave me a very belated birthday present: Chrome: Box II 1983-1995. Haven't really listened to any of the Damon Edge era of Chrome and so far it's pretty damn awesome! I think that's about it for now.
