Yesterday afternoon Mary Beth and I went for a walk to the park. While ostensibly dreary, the day was at least a fairly nice temperature. What else? Spent some time getting acquainted with my new phone. Later in the evening I went up to Minglewood to see The Messethetics. First up was Noise Choir. They were alright. I didn't know the Aquarian Blood dude was in the band. They were pretty straightforwardly rockin' for the most part. A lot of their stuff was surf-tinged. I mean, the name's a bit misleading on both counts but they weren't bad. I mean, pretty good. They felt like a good fit for The Messthetics too, anyway. The Messthetics were really good. I had some question going in as I hadn't been super-familiar with their work and the guitarist can be a bit shreddy, but generally it works. And live they're just great. I mean, it's fucking incredible just to watch Brendan Canty drumming from that up close. And while not as much of a showy thing to look at, I do recognize Joe Lally as the dude in Fugazi that probably gets the least attention but is just as deserving as anyone else in the band! His bass playing is always rock solid and interesting. So yeah! I was a little nervous at first 'cuz there weren't a ton of people at the show. I mean, by the time they playing it wasn't embarrassingly light, but it still wasn't close to a huge crowd or anything. But unsurprisingly they put on a great show and give it their all. They played a full hour set and then did a two song encore (even asking us if we wanted one song or two since it's a Sunday night). I'm kinda rambling on this, but it was a good show. I picked up some merch afterwards: a t-shirt and both their cds: st and Anthropocosmic Nest. The show even got out and was over early. After work today I picked up my car from the shop. It was the timing chain or something. Alright well no engine light now so hopefully all is good.
