Mary Beth and I had a very art-infused day yesterday. We went up to the Dixon for this exhibit on abstract expressionism. It was really good. The biggest focus was on Friedel Dzubas. I wasn't familiar with his stuff but it was really good. He has a very distinctive style and color palate. The collector who arranged the exhibit has the largest collection of his work. Several rooms were dedicated just to his paintings. Really awesome and illuminating stuff. Actually, I'm seeing now that the Dzubas exhibit was technically a separate exhibit from the main abstract expressionist one, but they were obviously planned together and complement each other because his stuff is definitely abstract expressionist. But the more general exhibit had a bunch of great stuff too with Helen Frankenthaler, Willem de Kooning, Robert Motherwell, Gerhard Richter, Frank Stella, Josef Albers (a small study, actually, and being a study a bit different, I mean, same squares pattern but without the typical precision and it was pretty interesting to see), and Mark Rothko (it was a small one but it got its own room with the correct Rothko-lighting, I wasn't quite expecting it and stepping into the room and seeing it kinda took my breath away a little bit). Anyway, we had a good time, lots of great art. Then there was typical Saturday errand-running. I recorded just a little bit of sounds that I'd gotten after playing with my new modules, just a little fragment. I also unearthed a little recording from last year and I did a little drawing for it to put up as the imagine when I upload it to bandcamp probably later today. Mary Beth and I watched some MST3K shorts last night and they were extremely funny. Well, that's probably about it for now as I savor this last bit of a very wonderfully long weekend.
