Find/Replace
Sep. 17th, 2019 05:12 pmWorked on music last night. Think I mostly finished the waltz I was working on for the dance-themed challenge. (The last challenge still never got issued so I'm not sure what the status of this will be!) May need to do just a little bit more mixing but feeling good about it. I almost wasn't. There felt something not quite there about it. Then I took one part, split it in half (running them both in parallel), doubled the halves, and stretched them to fill back the empty half left over (retaining pitch for one set, letting the pitch be slowed down to half-speed for the other). This had a much nicer effect and I think I'm more pleased with the result now. Weirdly, my doms felt slightly worse today (that's not how the pattern's supposed to go!). So, I may have mentioned this third party contractor that we tried to let go months ago but they got their legal department involved so we kept 'em on and gave them some work those months ago. Well, we're trying to follow up on it, finally got them to commit some code and holy shit. I've written awful code before, no doubt, but this was some level of embarrassment. Their task was to take this one api that's logging records into mongodb and migrate it to a dynamodb database. They literally just did a find/replace across the files of "mongodb" with "dynamodb". That's it. Even in places where it has "mongo" still say "mongo" (I mean, obviously that's not remotely how that works anyway, but still!...). Even if I had never developed in MuleSoft before, I'd know that that's beyond garbage. Pretty sure people who know nothing at all about code would know that that wouldn't be how this fucking works. I'm sort of astounded at the audacity that they'd commit such a thing and claim they'd done work. Also, those bastards on ebay got my return and just refunded my money. So, they sell me a cd. Then raise the price on the cd. Then send me the wrong cd. They still have it for sale but at a higher price. They wouldn't send me the correct one, just gave me a refund. I was angry at the scumminess of it all and I went and thought I'd found the same thing for cheaper but it all must have broken my brain 'cuz I actually ordered from someone else the same cd they wrongly sent me and not the one I wanted. I tried to see if I can cancel the order but not sure if I got to it in time. We'll see. I get screwed over but then do the same dumb thing to myself! Ah well.
