Soul Power
Nov. 9th, 2018 09:03 amTwas the last night of Indie Memphis and Mary Beth and I went up to the National Civil Rights Museum. We saw the documentary Mr. SOUL! and it was really good. About the Ellis Haizlip and the public access tv show he hosted from 1968-1973 called SOUL!. Lots of music and poetry and radical politics and black representation. Good stuff. I forgot to mention that the screening from the night before, they didn't turn off the lights above the seats and the light felt like it was shining right in my eyes as I was trying to watch and it was making me strain and it was difficult to watch and I was on the verge of a headache. They fixed it last night. Well, we actually started off sitting on the side where there aren't those lights above, and they did start the movie with those other lights on, but it was only a few minutes before they realized it was a problem and turned 'em off (it was a more crowded event last night and I guess there were more less-cowardly people to say something about it). After coming home I did work a little 'cuz the thing had been bugging the shit out of me and I finally fixed it so hurrah. Now it's Friday and I'm taking a vacation day so woohoo!
