Southern Voices

Last night Mary Beth and I went up to that theater in the basement of first congo to see a couple plays: adaptations of Eudora Welty's work. The theater is pretty tiny and it was packed beyond full. They said it was the biggest crowd in its history. There are some stands but all the seats were taken. We thought we got there kinda early but we had to wait as they kept bringing out more and more chairs to put on the floor to squeeze more people in. We ended up next to the stands. I had a bit of an obstructed view and this led to minor issues later as, while trying to watch, the railing was right in front of me and I'd try to focus on the actors (peeping between heads, at times I couldn't see the actors at all) the bars of the railing would be right in front of my face so my eyes would shift focus to that and I'd have to shift focus back to the actors and my eyes aren't what they used to be so all that refocusing was messing with my head and my eyes were getting tired and I felt like I was starting to get on the verge of a headache. The plays were pretty good. The first was adapted from one of her short stories ("Why I Live at the P.O.") and the second from her memoirs ("One Writer's Beginnings"). They both had two actresses (one playing the narrator in the first while the other played all the other characters and both switching off narration in the second). I don't think I'd ever read Eudora Welty before, but the writing was pretty good. Not sure what I thought of the performances. Not sure if I cared for some of the flourishes. But it was also hard to concentrate with the view I had. Work today. Apparently no one's coming to our team with any work for the next PI (Product Increment, the ten week span of work that gets kicked off with each Big Room Planning). So if we don't end up really getting any work, then we might have to go off and assist other teams. We shall see in a week or so.
