ateolf: (Robert points the bone at you)
Another Memphis Forward meeting yesterday. What else went down yesterday? Mary Beth kicked my butt at Boggle. Late in the evening we watched some documentary on DMT (something about it being the spirit molecule) that was 95% screensaver. There was some interesting information spattered about through the hippieish pseduoscience that you'd expect in anything so related to drugs, but the best part was in interviewing volunteers for the DMT study that happened in the early 90s. You know when someone's talking it gives their occupation at the bottom of the screen. Well, all the people who had volunteered naturally said "DMT Volunteer." That's a given. And the best one wasn't even the one who had "Shaman" added to it, but there was a guy whose said "Yoga Student." Again, these studies were in the early 90s, so that was at least 20 years ago. So these people are at least in the 40s, some definitely older. But this guy is apparently, when not spending his time pursuing the obvious activities, a student of yoga. Not an instructor, just a student. It's totally the kind of career listed on the onion's "American Voices." Well, so it tickled my funny bone anyway. Anyway, what else? Crosstown got back to me today about the festival! I'd left a voicemail on Saturday and the reminder worked. She apologized for the delay in response and said they were definitely interested in doing the event. Great. Our schedules are both regular weekday work schedules, but instead of meeting her in person I can call tomorrow. And should I need to meet someone in person, then there's someone else I could meet. They don't have more information on the future space, but we should still be able to get things rolling I guess. Pretty exciting. Oh, remember that thing that I was annoyed was getting deprioritized on Friday? Probably not. Anyway. The other thing, well there was something I needed to get a login for to do it and the guy who could do that was just getting on a plane so I wouldn't get that til tomorrow. Well, so I just kept working on the unit test stuff that I'd just gotten back into and was feeling pretty invested in. Well, so I completely changed track and got it working today! I was trying to use Arquillian and embed an entire container (like have the whole server and all that run in memory at compile time). Anyway, it'd been a nightmare to configure, still didn't get it working right. Maybe it couldn't even work with our server. I'm not sure. But doing more research, I decided it wasn't really the right way. Mocks with Mockito seemed much better. I did try that briefly last week, but thought it couldn't be done. Well, looked into it more and realized that was completely wrong. It works by faking calls to anything outside the piece of code you're testing. So it's extremely lighter and faster and it's super-easy to configure (and also really easy to use and control). So that was pretty exciting. This thing I'd been working off and on with for a while, finally got under my control!
