ateolf: (zoo and you)
Yesterday I finished reading Because They Wanted To by Mary Gaitskill and it was really good. Not a whole lot. Some movie watching. I watched Shock Corridor and it was okay, well, kinda goofy and over-the-top, but there were some interesting things about it, but still kinda goofy overall. Oh, we did some grocery shopping that day and The Fresh Market had this thing where outside they had hotdogs and rootbeer floats for $2 each so we indulged and it was little a little carnival wedged amidst chore drudgery. Later in the evening I watched Burnt Offerings with Mary Beth. We watched it online on some random site. The picture was a grainy and highly compressed streaming of a low quality, washed-out transfer to begin with. I thought it was kinda slow, but Mary Beth mentioned its excellent composition in some of the shots afterwards, but I think some things may not have registered with me through the poor image quality so I may need to rewatch it and give it another shot when I'm watching the movie a little closer to how it was meant to be seen (funny 'cuz last week we looked at these Douglas Sirk extras where somebody was talking about that being the case with one of his movies they'd first seen on tv badly and how they felt like they'd almost seen a completely different movie on watching it properly later). Today I got up to go to half of the half-a-day meeting for Memphis Forward. It was out at Buss's house. He lives in Cordova and normally that's pretty lame, but he lives on this lake and it really is pretty nice there. I had to leave early to go to Dustin's birthday party out in Barlett at Andy B's for some bowling. That was fun. Two games (ooh and I won both, not that I did very well, only barely broke a hundred each time, but Daphne got to commiserate and hi-five me since she won the kids' games on the other lane). I got to see Lila cry two times. The first 'cuz she cut her finger on this ramp the kids were using to aid enhance their game when they kept moving it around. Legit cry, no doubt. Afterwards, Josh was playing arcade games with her and I guess they won some prizes 'cuz she came back with some booty, one item being no less than a whoopie cushion. Well her and Maria played with it a few sits and then it busted. She cried after that too. I reassured her by telling her that she could tape it up. That made her feel better than the surrogate noises I attempted to provide. On the way home I made a few stops. We were right next to Bargain Hunt so I went in there. Unfortunately, it's the smaller location that doesn't have like the music equipment that trickles through the other location on rare occasions. But I did scour the cd bin and came up with a good $3 haul: Pajo: 1968, DJ Spooky That Subliminal Kid: Subliminal Minded • the EP, Igor Stravinsky: Pétrouchka, Piano Magic: Disaffected, and Tim Kinsella: Crucifix Swastika. Oh, and I also picked up a broom on the way home. Exciting stuff, I know, but we keep cutting our hands on the shitty broken brooms we have that we keep forgetting to replace 'cuz they're fucking brooms. Well, finally didn't forget. Hooray.
