Time

Mary Beth and I went to see Diary of a Teenage Girl last night. I thought it was really good. It's kinda tangential, but one thing that really strikes me is the strange sort of phantom nostalgia I get when I see stuff from that era (it takes place around 1975). Now, this is a few years before I'm even born, but the whole world doesn't move with fashion at the same pace. And lots of the decor of the 70s was still hanging around in the less fashionable spaces my early childhood occupied. Also, that's around when my parents got married so that's around when they're first gonna start getting a bunch of their stuff. And there's the old stuff that's just hanging around that you're drawn to as a kid (like the cassette recorder and that kind of microphone she used, I remember fishing out stuff like that from the backs of draws and closets and boxes and etc.). Even though it's before I existed, there's something of that time that feels like an integral part of my early childhood. Anyway, this morning we went grocery shopping and right afterwards I went to get my oil changed. I was going to go with Mary Beth to the Brooks to see a movie, but the oil changed ended up taking way longer than I was anticipating so I didn't make it out in time enough to go.
