It's been a pretty interesting week so far! Work was pretty productive early on this week, though the last few days I've felt a bit in a rut (just spending all this time not feeling like I'm getting much of anywhere, stuck just looking for stuff in certain bits of code). Monday Mary Beth and I walked over to the theater and saw It Follows. Holy shit what a good fucking movie! I wasn't so sure about the premise when it first started, but that ended up not mattering at all. It was really creepy. And the soundtrack is phenomenal (it's also pretty awesome how upfront and loud and omnipresent it is, similar to Suspiria in that way). It was just all around well made. It going for a sort of 80s atmosphere without actually necessarily being set in the 80s. It just nailed this feeling of childhood in a somewhat run-down suburb in the 80s. It just felt very much like childhood (or mine at least) while also maintaining this timeless dreamlike quality (which I guess blends with memories of childhood). I was very impressed with this movie anyway. Yesterday was the opening of the Rec Room, Memphis's new barcade! I was pretty stoked about it. While it's definitely not the best barcade I've been to, it seems pretty good and I'll definitely be going back. It's in a pretty huge warehouse space. Actual arcade games are free. They don't have a HUGE array of machines, but they have enough to actually feel like an arcade. I went with Josh and we played some bad Double Dragon/River City Ransom knockoff called Zero Team (bad but fun). It was pretty crowded last night so not too many of the machine were available. You had to rent paddles to play ping pong. We did play foosbal air hockey, both of which were fun as hell. There seemed to be a bit of a frat crowd there, but it was enjoyable seeing the nerds mixing between and sliding amongst the ranks. Afterwards we went and got my modular and headed to Josh's place and played with our euroracks and hooked 'em up together and shit and it was a whole lotta fuckin' fun. Oh, yesterday I got free lunch (at fuckin' Pyros of all places). The food wasn't bad, but I'll still never go there on my own out of spite of how they moved in next door to the best pizza place in town (Rock N Dough). And their atmosphere is atrocious. What else? Not too much I can think of. Can't believe the news bout With Bob and David (fucking new Mr. Show series without the old name on Netflix)! I'd be more excited if I wasn't still in shock about it. Oh, also, went to lunch on Tuesday at Huey's. Someone said something on Slack about burgers but not at Five Guys. I said something about loving Huey's but I hoped no one was dissin' Five Guys. John seemed surprised I would defend it and asked me if I'd ever had Backyard Burger (saying it's at least as good...what!?). Had to respectfully disagree with that one. I told the story to Mary Beth after work and she wasn't feeling well enough to cook anyway so she got to wanting Five Guys so we got some and it was awesome (lotta awesome burgers in one day). Anyway, that's enough about this very important shit.
