The Other Stuff

I'll do the show in a separate post and catch all the other stuff right here. I neglected to mention previously that on our recent Target outing, I picked up Hannibal: Season Two on dvd. Okay, let's pick up. There was the show. After unloading and all that, Mary Beth and Jacques and I went to Ihop for very very late night pancakes. Okay, so that means most of Saturday was spent sleeping. You know, the most that happens before I go in to work. Yesterday, Mary Beth and I met Dustin and Courtney and Daphne for breakfast/lunch/brunch at The Arcade. Mmm...arcadey... Then surprise! Josh and Molly and Maria and Lila were there too. We had a christmas exchange thingie. Josh built me a module for my eurorack! He calls it the Ring Mangler. It has an x input and a y input and it multiplies the two and divides by 10 (there's also a -x and a -y to subtract respectively). It also has a switch with a distortion circuit. After food we went back to Josh's and got to test it out and it sound really darn awesome. I am excited! Dustin got me a whole bunch of Make Noise pink patch cables. So I'm excited for my patches to start looking fabulous! Unfortunately couldn't stay at Josh's too long as I had to go to work. Okay, so did that. I'd been realizing my mp3 player wasn't playing everying that was on it (I know there's a TON of shit, but there was a bunch that just never came up and I looked it up and they weren't showing on the player even though I could see them in the directories when plugged into a computer). I'd thought I'd fixed it recently, but I noticed the stuff was still not there. So I spent too much time messing with it last night and at least some of the stuff that was missing is showing up now! Hopefully it worked for everything. Now I'm excited to listen to it all over again! I emailed the people about the job training thingie and they said I have until just after the new year to work on my project. So there's time! Good. Still just have that one last part, but I'm feeling pretty stuck on it.

The Family Ghost show #44: Hi-Tone 2014/12/19 (No Dreams cd release show)

Now on to the rock and or roll! We played the Hi-Tone's small room for the first time (well, the Hi-Tone's newer location for the first time as well). The thick smell of pot greeted us along with an argument between the sound guy and door guy about whether the sound guy was supposed to be there (he wasn't but apparently wasn't told). Aforementioned smell returned to us from a different source later in the evening. Foxglove (Ryan and Paul's other band) opened the festivities. Well, I guess I technically did, playing them onstage with a little (heavily minor) thing I'd been working on the past few days mostly on the Prophet (with some big Moog swoops to punctuate towards the end) (oh, and a few quotes of "Dies Irae" thrown in for good measure). Okay, the goal was to play this thing and Foxglove would get on stage, I'd play maybe five minutes, just opening the ceremonies or whatever. I ended up playing a few minutes longer than intended 'cuz Paul was nowhere to be found when the rest of the band was getting onstage. Anyhow, Foxglove were good. It was my first time to see them with the newer Paul-inclusive lineup. They also covered my favorite Pavement song ("In the Mouth a Desert"). I recorded their set. I'll need to get the recording to them when I get a chance! Next was Los Psychosis and they were good. Weird noticing how young the keyboard player is, havign x's on his hands (and definitely not for sXe reasons). Recorded their set too and ditto.

Alright, now we get to The Family Ghost. There were lots of people at the show. At least in the beginning. Quite a few left after Foxglove, but there was still a pretty decent sized crowd when we started. I didn't look out at the people for most of it, but I did right before singing "Battle Chant" and it was very very nearly empty. But it was probably the time. It was pretty late. It seems like a lot of people left during "Visitant" which was the most accessible song we played, and it was probably around 1 am at that point. Overall I think it went pretty well, as far as our performance. Lots of good things about it. Some screw-ups, but nothing too bad. I took the blame for messing up "Safety Corridor" and made us start over (not something I usually do, but we were lost and all trying to match where we thought the others were and so constantly moving away from each other), but listening back I was right. Go me, yeah? But aside from that it was fucking badass shit. We played on the drummer for Foxglove's kit (with my low floor tom brought in). We also played on the bassist from Los Psychosis's amp which sounded too loud. So there were probably some levels issues during the set, but whatever. Live rock, amiright? Josh ran projections (which were pretty damn awesome) and he recorded the video on his phone (though the end of "Lost Year" got cut off) (AND he helped us load gear, how awesome of a guy is he?). I also recorded the audio (which did not get cut off) so I'll post that and share at some point. It was a lot of fun. I drew blood drumming at the end of "Lost Year." Rock and or roll and or shit.
