Snow day today! (Of course there's not any actual snow, but there's really also not even the ice that was expected. Well, finding out about a cancellation is always a thrill anyway.) Thanksgiving with my parents was on Sunday. My mom made stuff again for the first time in a little while. It was really good and, most importantly, she didn't seem as crazy stressed as she often does during holidays. Got to see Lizzie. Got to play with the nephews. Anthony is becoming a little person. He had a grand ol' time playing. All the stories are of how destructive and disaster-prone and all that he is. And I'm not doubting that at all, but it's cute because he's really sweet and can't help it when he does terrible things. It's gonna be interesting to see what he's like when he grows up. Was up real late Sunday night and got like three hours of sleep for Monday (difficult transition back to working, there!). Passed out Monday after work. Wednesday was one of the worst days ever. My fifth period was being crappy so I gave a pop quiz and then that made them even crappier. Ugh, that usually works. So afterwards I'm trying to get some order and motivate them with a talking-to and all that and I get a fucking nosebleed. Also, I had just given my last bit of tissue to a student earlier that period so I have nothing and blood is getting all on my hands and face. So then the kids are just losing it. Anyway, at least yesterday was better. There was some professional development I had to go to after work yesterday too. Got some book-related t-shirts in the mail yesterday: Metamorphosis (F. Kafka), Tropic of Cancer (Henry Miller), and Of Mice and Men (John Steinbeck). The first one I, of course, just HAD to get (the others got me free shipping). Well, I was actually surprised by the news that school would be cancelled today. And for good reason looking out when I woke up (at least I got to sleep in). Well, it's nice having this free day anyway. Being lazy so far. Bit of neglected news from last post: forgot to mention that sometime last week I got a new The Wire box set in the mail (our old dvds were borrowed and never returned so finally got around to replacing it). Anyway, to the day!
