Mostly been sedate these last few days. Just continuing my existence as a cipher. On Thursday, I finished the final mixes of the "Denoument" of my fake soundtrack thingie. I was much closer to being finished already than I'd led myself to remember. There was only one part that wasn't mixed and finished. Also, on Friday and yesterday I added percussion and finished another, shorter song ("Love Theme"). Just clicking on the floor tom hardware and a "bass drum" from the low floor tom hit by a rag taped to a drumstick. The former piece is one I'd been working on for over a year (two years even? It's hard to remember too well). I'd been really happy with it, except for the unfinished part and the mixing and fixing work that had to go into the drum parts. I'd been pretty sure it was the best thing I'd ever done with music. Hopefully that still holds. The latter piece was fun because, for the bass part, I solely use my eurorack stuff (which I don't have much of). It was an experiment to use my 4MS PEG module as a normal envelope generator (something it's not at all, it took a lot of patchwork, but I got it to behave in a pretty normal way so that was fun). It was recorded in three parts. The poly synth at the beginning of summer, the modular bass synth at the end of summer, and the percussion this week. Anyway, have watched more movies too. On Friday, Mary Beth and I walked to Studio on the Square to see that new Hunger Games movie. I never saw the first one. I actually didn't think it was too bad. I enjoyed the social satire and the weakest parts were when it was actiony, which didn't happen for a good while into the movie. Then at night we watched To the Wonder (which greatly disappointed me, I love most of Malick's stuff I've seen, but this one was not good) and Upstream Color (which I liked a lot, I wasn't in love with Primer, but this one really grabbed me). We finished the season of Mad Men either Wednesday or Thursday night. Yesterday we met Jacques for a late brunch at Tamp and Tap and the food was really good. After grocery shopping, we met Jacques again and Trey from Austin (in The Gary) who was in town for a show last night. We ate Gus's. I skipped the show to do some grading, which I haven't done yet. Tina's owner showed up on Friday. She took her to the vet and she got flea treatment so she's staying in our laundry room until she leaves for town (which should be any minute if she hasn't picked her up already) as her apartment's covered in fleas. Anyway, seeing the family soon. That's about it for now. Oh, here's some songs:
