ateolf: (Mission of Blurma)
Jesus it's been a weird and fucking stressful week. Either during the school day (leaving for lunch and not returning) or after, a teacher at my school died. Mr. Hymon. He was a pastor and really beloved by the students. They always cited him as being inspirational. I didn't personally know him too well, but he was always very nice. It's really sad and a lot of people were pretty devastated. Tuesday morning was when I found out and the students (who didn't already know) were told. So it was a very surreal day. Wenesday we had our scheduled honors program that took up a bit of the morning. afterwards we went to third period (my troublesome class) and a fucking fight happened in my room. I had put up a new seating chart. This would have put two girls that apparently don't like each other near each other. They had not moved yet. But they started complaining that they don't like each other. One girl started yelling and stuff. Now, at this point they are both on complete opposite sides of the class. They haven't moved yet. I tried to talk to the girl that was being belligerant, but she got out of her seat and went straight to the other side of the room, going past me, and proceeded to engage the other students. I tried to get between them and then when the fight broke out, break it up, but had no luck. And this girl is ghetto as fuck. The one who was attacked is generally a nice and girl and decent student. The aggressor, if it wasn't obvious, is pretty much a thug. It's not hard to guess who "won" the fight. I tried to pull 'em apart but there's only so far I can go when it comes to putting my hands on these girls in the midst of such chaos. There was a good bit of blood and an ambulance was called to take the one girl away. I've been pretty down about that whole mess. Thursday afterwork the band played a show. I'll continue with tradition and leave that for its own post. Had about three hours of sleep that night. So was pretty tired yesterday. I'm being observed on Monday, so I had my pre-evaluation meeting yesterday. So I had to get stuff ready for that and I was pretty nervous about it, but it turned out alright. There was some positive news in that, because the schedule has been so crazy lately, the class times are shifted and she'll most likely be coming to observe me fifth period instead of third (which is what it would have been and is my crazy-worst class). After work I took a little nap and then Mary Beth and I went over to Josh and Molly's. Dustin and Courtney and Daphne were there. All the girls were having a jolly time. We had a tea party. I'd also brought my eurorack over and a little later we hooked it up to Josh's MS-20. Then Paul and Shawna came over. Lots of hanging out and talking and stuff. Later a game of ping pong between me and Josh (I won a bunch, though I did suck at first). That was fun. I finally feel like I've gotten some rest. Now to do stuff.

The show went pretty well. Not a whole lot of people there, but it wasn't empty either. It was raining that night (which means we get to load gear in the rain all for the sake of probably playing to fewer people!). But hey, we've played to worse. For some reason I'd never actually been in The Poplar Lounge before. Well, uh, now I have. Anyway, the set:

Safety Corridor
Battle Chant
Death Blow
the one Paul sings on
Cameras
Doctorate

I think we had a strong opening. "Safety Corridor" was pretty ball-stomping. I broke a strng, probably during the fast part before the end/vocals part. I did drop a stick during "Cameras." To be fair, the drums were set up pretty close to the wall and I didn't have much room to move my elbows, I was kind've up against it. I moved the drums forward before we played, but not enough. I move around a lot during that song. Also to be fair, there's a chance I would have dropped 'em anyway. Josh said I recovered. At the end of "Doctorate," I forgot one of my notes and played a real wrong bad note twice before I found it. It's the quiet part too so it stood out. But overall I thought we were pretty solid. The bass player from The Pneumatic Girls seemed really into it. Talked to Josh a little about working on a programming-related project in the upcoming future that might help me pick back up on some skillz. That should be fun.

Couple things I left out of last post: there were also two other fights on Wednesday (plus one off-campus after school that involved students...) So that's why the schedule's off. We're on one long silent lunch for the rest of the year. Like the lockdown we had last year. Also, while typing my last post, I realized I had been typing/saying Eliane Radigue's first name all this time as "Elaine." Feel kinda dumb and "woah..."
