Shower Adventure
Dec. 2nd, 2012 03:53 pmSimple errands turned into a wretched mission due to the stinkin' marathon going around the city and right by our apartment. I mean, I know it's for a good cause and all, but I don't see how it's okay to just shut down major intersections on major streets without any contingencies for detours or anything. Anyway, we went to the hardware store to get a washer-like thing for the shower, but (I thoght) they didn't have the part I needed. I fished it out of the shower and it crumbled apart, but it looked like a solid washer. The thing they had that was the closest to it was far too big (or so I thought). They recommended we go to this plubming supply store just down the street, but we ended up getting stuck by the marathon trying to cross Poplar. It was right by our house as well, but we avoided it by going in the other direction and I didn't think it would be that far down. After sitting going nowhere for a while we got off on a side street and took a detour on the interstate to go under the bridge. We get to the place, but it turns out it's now closed on Saturdays. The sign mentioned a location on Summer so we went towards it. Then the marathon tricked me by being on North Parkway too, which I realized after we got on it. It was fine until we tried to cross East Parkway onto Summer. Anyway, same situation there so we had to get off a side street and do more navigating to get back on track around the thing. Get to the damn plumbing parts store and they couldn't tell what the thing was. They told me to come back with the actual faucet hardware. Ugh. So back home to brave it back out again. It wasn't as bad going back out again as I knew what to expect and also it was starting to die down some. Anyway, turns out the part they had at the first hardware store was what I needed, I just didn't realize it because it had broken apart in two pieces and I thought these two pieces were two different things. Anyway. So the shower's back to working and I know you were thrilled reading this fucking shower adventure story (doesn't seem so exciting now). Anyway, the band practiced. Oh fuck. I also forgot to mention that yesterday morning I finished reading The Recognitions by William Gaddis. It only took me six months. It was really good. I liked J R more, but a lot of what was great about that was present in this book to a lesser extent, there was also other great stuff. Anyway, we went to the grocery store late because the shower adventure put us behind schedule. I tried to watch our big championship game, but couldn't get the channel on the antenna. I could only get the channels associated with 3, 25 (or 24 or whatever), and 50. I then turned to text updates on the internet and was sort of "tuned in" when they won in overtime by one point (getting the two-point conversion after the touchdown, no less!) against the team that beat them last year. So we got it, pretty exciting for the school. Today at the gym was much better than last time. I guess I gotta get to work now.
