the eternal
May. 9th, 2009 08:41 pmi preordered the new Sonic Youth album yesterday with the deal that gets a bunch of (or some at least) extra stuff, including being able to listen to the album online before it comes out and all...i must say i'm at least a little pleasantly surprised...i didn't give it a close listen, but previously i'd heard sort of a montage trailer of some clips strewn together and i was really not too impressed with what i'd heard...but it seems like they of course drew out the worst parts of whatever...i was thinking it'd be their worst, but (and i'm still not of a fully-formed opinion) i think it's at least better than Rather Ripped...we'll see...as i said i've only listened to it sort of in the background...far from mindblowing, but most likely a good record...i also bought tickets to see 'em in Nashville in july with Mary Beth and Ryan! hopefully my umpteenth time seeing them will continue to be a treat...
last night Mary Beth and i went to barnes and noble, really looking for language texts without luck but happened upon their $3 bargain table and had some great luck: The Female Eunuch by Germaine Greer, The Fragmented Life of Don Jacobo by Isaac Goldemberg, Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl by Harriet Jacobs, Omega Minor by Paul Verhaeghen, Confidence-Man: His Masquerade by Herman Melville, Lend Me Your Character by Dubravka Ugresic, The City Builder by George Konrád, Man in the Holocene by Max Frisch, Eros: the Bittersweet by Anne Carson, and The Barnum Museum by Steven Millhauser...the latter seven being fuckin' Dalkey Archive books! i hit the jackpot! i don't even feel bad about purchasing so many books, that was too awesome a find...and on the subject of books i finished reading A Fable by William Faulkner at work today...halfway through with working this "week" as my week is a weekend...well, that's about it...
