ateolf: (me and Leala)
yesterday i started getting this big rash all over my chest...then in the morning it started spreading to my back...it was really sucky...my mom had this stuff to spray on it...and by the time school was out it had subsided tremendously...i think it's still lingering about, waiting for the moment to spring back in full suckitude, but at least it's not itching too bad and isn't too red and bumpy...and my throat's been really sucky...very sore...i didn't get much sleep last night, after doing my probability homework and making a pathetic attempt at studying for my number theory quiz...i completely bombed the quiz...though i got back the bonus question that i did the other night and i at least got that right...5 extra points...allowing me to fail the quiz *less* badly...durring my first class, i was considering skipping out on the second class...just going there, handing the homework to my professor and going home...where i would nap for an hour before i went to work...though i was also considering skipping out on work due to my sucky skin and throat conditions...(w/ my tiredness as a little plus or whatever...) but by the time the class came around i decided to stick w/ it or whatever...my rash had started to calm down tremendously by then...after class i went to my car where i proceeded to sleep (in the parking lot) for the hour between school and work...sometimes, when trying to sleep in such a place, it's just impossible to fall alseep...but i just passed right out...it might've been associated w/ the benadryl, but it might've just been plain ol' sleepiness, which i had anyways...then work...i came in at the same time as Paul and gave him his birthday present: a book entitled Very Bad Poetry...it seems quite the kickass piece of literature...i was only at work for an hour and a half...it was slow and there were a bunch of ppl there...i walked away w/ like $4...although i did get a lot of food while there, as i was damned hungry...$5.30's worth, after the 1/2 off employee discount...blah blah blah...after work i went to eat at Coletta's w/ Paul, Katie, David, and Monika...it kind've sucked as i had just filled myself up, but oh well...now i'm home...i should read some models of computation crap...i'm scheduled to see the doctor in the morning...though the rash that prompted this seems to be pretty benign now...although my throat is really really really really pissing me off...
ateolf: (Robert points the bone at you)
hyperandum: i just want to hear elven jones and rashied ali playing across from each other...
AteOlf: that'd be sweet..
hyperandum: yeah, that's why i need to find that album..
AteOlf: hrm...it's prob'ly not Meditations, though it could be...i'd guess it'd be right around when he switched over from the two drummers...
hyperandum: i think he played with both groups onand off..
AteOlf: yea, but everything i've seen w/ Elvin Jones has been earlier than w/ Rashied Ali...
AteOlf: i could easily be mistaken though...
hyperandum: well during the last 3 years coltrane was recording like 13 times a year...
AteOlf: yea...
hyperandum: 1965 was a turning point in the life of John Coltrane. It was at this point that he crossed
the line into the free jazz arena that he had been approaching since the early '60s. Besides
his landmark ASCENSION, no better album illustrates this than the awe-inspiring
MEDITATIONS. Coltrane's regular quartet with McCoy Tyner (piano), Jimmy Garrison
(bass) and Elvin Jones (drums) is expanded here with second drummer Rashied Ali (who
would assume Jones' spot after this album) and saxophonist Pharoah Sanders.
AteOlf: cool
hyperandum: :-D
AteOlf: though Jones played w/ Coletrane after Meditations...
hyperandum: well what i gathered from te impulse liner notes, the quartet never really stopped playing together...
hyperandum: its just he picked up playing more free jazz stuff without them...
hyperandum: there's an album of similar stuff called first meditations without ali or sanders...
AteOlf: hrm...
AteOlf: i need all his 65-67 stuff...
hyperandum: you know everytime we say rashied ali we probably set off some cia anti-terrorism monitor...
AteOlf: hah
hyperandum: >:o
AteOlf: OI!
AteOlf: well now the cia are gonna get a rough lesson in late-period Coletrane that's for sure!
hyperandum: indeed... let the free jazz revolution begin...
AteOlf: power to the prophets of rage

hyperandum: O:-)
hyperandum: whoa!
hyperandum: and i want to get expressions too...
AteOlf: oh?
AteOlf: i have that one, it fucking rules...
hyperandum: its alice and john coltrane with rashied ali...
AteOlf: this one song, his sax playing sounds like a synth...
hyperandum: cool...
AteOlf: they also play on Live at the Village Vanguard Again!
AteOlf: which also rules...
hyperandum: there are loads of live stuff..
AteOlf: i know...i need all that too...:-)
AteOlf: by the time i'm 60 i'll have like 5 cd towers dedicated to just Coletrane's last 3 years...it'll be cool...
hyperandum: cool..

i woke up, went to the doctor's office, waited over an hour, was seen...they thought it was strep throat but the test came up negative...they think it's prob'ly just some other bacterial infection or something...they gave me some prescription...but i can't get it 'cuz i'm apparently not on my parents' health care right now 'cuz they don't think that i'm a student so i need to go get proof of being a student...lalabullshit...but it's not bad 'cuz even now my throat's not bad at all...i guess whatever it was has been starting to go away...i went back to sleep...i had set my alarm, but when i was awoken, for some reason my sleep deprived self was interpreting the time as being an hour earlier so i went back to sleep for a while...i woke up thinking i had over an hour to get ready for class...then suddenly i realize it's already just past 4...so i was late for class...then i get there and realize that our second homework assignment was due...for some reason i had thought it was due tuesday...(i think i got the date mixed up w/ the day our project proposal is due...) so i'm a big idiot...but it's not TOO bad 'cuz there are 7 hw assignments and he just takes the best 5 grades...but still, i didn't do well on the first (55) and i need all the leeway i can get...bah...at least i'm not totally screwed or anything...just yet...and now i'm just sitting here...
