Spent a little time "warming up" and practicing a little for the show, not a ton but a little. And then it was doing the show! I got up there a bit early and set up and was the only one there for a little while. I'm just like that (and one of my oscillators can be unpredictable on how long it takes to "warm up" and actually produce a sound). Anyway, I'd brought my book along in just this case so I'm there at the Lamplighter reading for a little while like a big nerd. After not too long others arrived and started up. San Salida was first. They're a bit kinda heartland rock. It's kinda fun 'cuz I don't often get to play shows with musicians that are very different from what I do. The people in the band were all nice. While they were warming up, the keyboard player started just playing this extended little ambient bit that was really nice. I wanted to talk to her about it to see if she happens to just do that kind of thing on her spare time too or if she was just messing around. Anyway, then I was up second. I thought it mostly went pretty well. Towards the end of my set, this high pitched tone just started shriek-droning along and at first I thought I either had something feeding back or messed something up to mix in an oscillator or filter or something just going full on. But then trying to see what it could be, I'm pretty sure it's not coming from me. So I'm guessing one of the house microphones just picked up a signal and started feeding back. It was a little distracting as I was trying to wrap up my set and my conclusion was maybe a bit flubbed, but whatever. Afterwards, we found it was one of the pa speakers just stuck in some kind of cycle. Found a stepladder so the tall San Salida singer could get up there and turn it off. And the sound went away after it was turned back on so I didn't just blow the pa, hooray. Then neon glittery was up last and she had a good set as always. There was also a brand new song that ruled. One of her Casios seems to be about to just straight up die, which is sad. A lot of special sounds come from that one. She did happen to recently find another Casio that she thought was broken but does work, though it's a different one and wouldn't have the same kinds of sounds to be a replacement, just another keyboard. Anyway, fun show. Saw some people there. Saw Javi for the first time in a while. He seems to be doing good now but said a few months ago it was very rough and he was scared to be out on the streets (with the racist fascists out in full force). Anyway, I wasn't trying to end on a depressing note. He seems to be doing better now anyway.
