We had a full day planned of things to do but Mary Beth still isn't feeling up to walking yet so she sent me off to go and do all of them in her stead. First there was The End of All Art popup at a little art shop on Marshall. They primarily sell art books and we really enjoyed their selection the last time we went to one of these so I went and kept my eyes peeled for things Mary Beth might be into. Well, I got one book for myself: Alien Roots: Éliane Radigue. Super excited to see that in person. It recently came out and I've come very close to being tempted to ordering it online from Blank Forms. But sitting in front of me in person I couldn't resist! I also found a couple of books for Mary Beth (one Nan Goldin and one of cat drawings and poetry). Then I came back home for lunch, then it was off to the Metal Museum for our class on making copper luminaries. Since she wasn't there they let me make two. They were actually pretty quick to make. You take square sheets of copper, put them on this wooden block, and then hammer in little holes to the shapes on sheets of paper you tape to the copper. Then when it's done you wrap it around a jar with a candle in it. They had pre-made printouts of drawings but they also let you draw your own. I drew a cat for Mary Beth (they had a cat in their printouts, but it was cartoony-looking and I wanted something more streamlined). And for myself I drew a bunch of waveforms. My waveform drawings were pretty sloppy but I was happy with the cat, it turned out pretty well. Late at night we lit the candles and enjoyed the light from the shapes. Then the last thing was this arts and crafts market at the Hi Tone. It took up both upstairs and downstairs and it was packed as fuck. I went through it all but it was hard to look too closely at everything because of the crowds squeezed in. There was also really not enough room for people to both walk and stand in front of booths. I tried to look around as best I could but didn't really see anything interesting. Later at night we watched some more Slings & Arrows. Now it's a new day and one that's her birthday!
