Had a very active day yesterday! Mary Beth and I started it off by walking down to the Square for the Crawfish Festival and picked up some boxes of crawfish! We ate it in the beautiful weather sitting on our front stoop.

Then I went and had rehearsal with the Scrap Metal Orchestra. Ryan was able to make it for the first time so that's cool! Things continue to keep going well. We'll see as we start to put it together with the actual movie (I need to make more damn progress editing those damn sound files).

Went home for a little bit. Then it was time to go downtown to see Public Enemy! (At the lame Riverbeat festival, but I couldn't pass up the chance to finally see them.) I got all disoriented trying to find the stage when I got in. First I walked in the direction everyone else was walking, but then the path seemed to end at the stage where some crappy band was playing (that was definitely not the correct stage) so I wasn't sure if I was going the right way and I looked at the map on the festival's website and it does seem like I was going the wrong direction so I go the other way and then end up at the main entrance/exit (I had come in from a smaller one on the side). I ask someone and they tell me to just go in the other direction and I'll find the stage I'm looking for. I'm a little confused and look at the map again and realize...their map has South on the top. WHAT THE FUCK!? Why would you even do that!? Especially when you're running along right next to a huge, famous north-to-south landmark like the fucking Mississippi River (like, when I'm in Tom Lee Park, I naturally know exactly which way north and south are! so if I see a map of this park...I'm going to read it, you know, the way just about every fucking map is read!). But I finally figure it out, and the path kind of goes into the crowd of that first stage to go around some vip lounge building or whatever, but it didn't continue on even though it didn't look like it. I ran into Courtney along the way (while I was still a little confused and disoriented and trying to find a bathroom) so said hi briefly. But I made it to the stage and though time had run out a little bit, I managed to get a decent spot!

Public Enemy were great. They had lots of energy and played lots of good stuff (and some stuff I'm not familiar with). One song it was just the music of "Back in Black" while they rapped over it. The video projections were cool. Towards the end Flavor Flav played the drums on a couple of songs (one had some local people rapping their own song...I think I've heard them do it before at other events...it does something like "we built this city on Memphis soul"). Then when he got out from behind the drums he played bass on "By the Time I Get to Arizona". Then they ended with "Fight the Power" and Flavor got down off the stage up to the crowd. I couldn't see that too well as, while I was pretty close, I wasn't right up there. Anyway, Public Enemy ruled! There you go!
