Yesterday ended up being a very truncated Indie Memphis day. I did get there to see my first movie, A Fidai Film. That was extremely good. It was abstract and experimental using "reclaimed" film footage from Palestine that was looted by Israel in the early eighties (so some of the footage older and some from around then). The footage was often but not always manipulated, usually with bright red drawing over the top of it. Anyway, hard to accurately describe, but this was a very good movie. I had a very long time before my next one. I was able to get through to my dad through messages and found I was able to visit my mom but they were going to take her to dialysis so I waited for that. Then finally got word she'd probably be out of dialysis around 8 pm. So I went up to the hospital to be there at 8. I missed my other two movies of the night (Free Rent and The Birthday, I'll try to check them out later if I'm ever able). It was a good thing I brought along my book because I had to wait over an hour in the empty room for her to come back. I had thought my dad would be there but I'm sure he understandably went home to take a break when they took her to dialysis. But for a little while I was like...I DO have the right room, right? But they brought her back so I was able to be with her for a while. I'm sure she's in better condition than when they first brought her in, but it's not good. She was able to talk some. Uncle Robert had stopped by and brought her some fruit and mac'n'cheese and she ate those when she first came back. I talked to her some but after she ate I just held her hand for a long time. It was sweet because at some point she stopped to stretch her arms or scratch or something but then she soon made a grabby gesture with her hand for me to bring mine back. I got a bit emotional I guess especially with the hand-holding and I know I was crying some as best as I tried not to. After a while the nurse came back in to give her some more medicine. I think she thought we were weird just sitting there. She said we could turn on the tv. Then she left I asked mom if she wanted the tv on and she nodded. She started drifting off to sleep not too much longer after that. I know that dialysis is very tiring. I was surprised she was awake for so long anyway. After a while my sister showed up. There was no rush for time or anything, but I don't know of anyone else who could text me that they were parking and then not make it into the room until well over an hour later. (Mostly just bring it up because it's amusing.) Anyway, then I left a little while after she got there and it was well after midnight so it was good to get back home to sleep. That's about it for now.
