Taking advantage of my day off, I went and grabbed some rib sandwiches from Payne's in the late morning. I had my first Indie Memphis movie in the later afternoon. It was called Universal Language and it was...pretty good. I mean, visually it was absolutely fantastic and beautiful and right up my alley. But as far as its content, it was just very quirky and filled with humor that didn't land at all for me. I mean, it wasn't BAD. But I guess it felt like it had a lot more potential. I had gotten a phone call as I was getting ready to leave for it that I missed but I checked my voicemail after it was over and got a message that my tags were ready to be picked up at the dealership. I had well over two hours until my next movie so I went out there and picked up the tags and registration and they put it on my car and everything. Still don't have the title. I need to go ask about that right now! Also, got a message from my dad that my mom was taken to the emergency room, been trying to get through to him but haven't been able. The last thing I went to see was the hometowner after dark shorts block. This was up at Crosstown instead of Studio on the Square right around the corner (where everything else I'm seeing is, Crosstown is mostly being used for the local stuff, less convenient this year then in previous years when all of the venues running simultaneously were at least in the same Overton Square area and no more than a block or so away from each other). Lo and Juniper's short Friend Shaped was part of it so I had to see that and it was good! I also enjoyed one called American Kaiju with a giant puppet monster attacking Memphis including sets of downtown Memphis so it was amusing (it took a comedy kind of approach with the unrealistic look of the sets and puppet and all). I think that's all I have for now, blugh.
