The Velvet Underground

There were some big tornado warnings yesterday evening. The worst of the storms jumped around us: up north in Tipton county and south in Mississippi, the Mississippi part of the storm went up into Shelby county, but just to the southeast. At night Mary Beth and I watched the Todd Haynes documentary The Velvet Underground (I just missed it when it came to the theater here, it opened and I said I'll make it "next week" and then "next week" it wasn't playing anymore). It was good. It did very well with the archival footage. It went into pre-VU stuff more than I'd expected and that was where I had the most to learn. It was a little weird that they went into all this detail with Lou and John playing with Tony Conrad in The Primitives but they didn't even mention Angus MacLise. I mean, I know it wasn't trying to take an authoritative stance, but that was probably the weirdest omission (especially how much they also talked about The Dream Syndicate). I also forgot to mention in my last post how in my ripping project I'm done with discs categorized by artist; I'm outside the alphabet!; I'm at the various artists section at the end! (Okay, so that goes back into its own alphabet, but still.) The end is very much in sight. Just a few more shelves left.
