I got a cd in the mail yesterday: Duet for Theremin and Lap Steel: Halocline. At night Mary Beth and I watched a little bit of The Simpsons and then played a game of Ticket to Ride where I once again did that really stupid thing and forgot to double-check that I had hit all my cities and just assumed I had but missed one after slightly adjusting my plan (such that I could easily have made that connection many times over, I just didn't). Robert, keep double-checking your routes as the game progresses not just at the beginning! Anyway, that's about it for now.

I spent most of the game making good moves and decisions only to just not bother to make that one little two car connection. Such that I at least made up for that bone-headedness by clearing enough to win by 1 point! (And it was chance that I cut off your main route on my first move which made you not bother with longest "road" 'cuz if you'd gotten that I would've been TOAST!

i really don't think there was any way to make that feasible--it would've stretched all my resources/timing etc. to the brink, and also then there'd be zero chance of getting that 21pt tunnel. so frankly i'm pretty sure there's no way i could've done it any better than i did--getting every route i had, getting that tunnel, and considering the very first move of the game cut off any real chance at longest road given the tunnel thing and none of my significant routes remotely connecting to each other or even nearby. i'm proud of my moves that game. good example of how you play being impressive and the outcome feeling so foregone in retrospect if you're the losing end it doesn't "matter". which sounds sour grapes/condescendingly mean, whoops. i don't mean it like that though! just, there was literally no better way to play that game from my position so...
