Mission of Burma
Jun. 20th, 2020 08:50 amMary Beth and I watched This Is Not a Photograph: the Mission of Burma Story last night. It was a fun documentary and got to revisit some of the nostalgia of seeing them. The best part was the bonus features with footage of the show I was at. I was thinking it might be the whole show but it was only a few songs. Mostly now and again you could see the backs of the heads of David, Jacques, and me. Also when they first walk on stage the camera flashes past us from the front for half a second. And there's one angle where you see me perfectly reflected in the plexiglass or whatever that surrounds the drums. And it's a little freaky 'cuz I'm like the only person that gets reflected at all and there I am reflected almost perfectly kind of. I mean, none of this is really noticeable unless you're looking for it 'cuz we are just like the audience and stuff. I was also able to tell I was wearing my Confusion Is Sex shirt which is funny since Thurston and Lee joined them on stage for the encore of "All World Cowboy Romance." And I'd forgotten that Hugo Burnham (Gang of Four drummer) joined them for that song as well. Man that was a good show and quite the formative memory for me and, uh, here's to nostalgia I guess! And I guess more details of the reflections of that show are buried here in this journal back in the January 2002 entries by a twenty-three year old me. That's also a little crazy to think about.
