Mary Beth and I did the errands yesterday (and got some cake and cookies while out...). Then I was so damn tired I took a bit of a nap. Which was good as I pretty much felt refreshed again. We went out to the drive-in last night. It was a *relatively* short run of animated movies. First was Heavy Metal, which is the only one I'd seen before. I hated it when I saw it a couple decades ago and I still think it's terrible. It's like a high school boy's notebook fantasy with barely watchable animation top off everything else off. Next was A Scanner Darkly. I'd avoided it when it came out as I'm generally wary of movie adaptations of books I like (also, I was like, eww the Dazed & Confused dude!...though now I've come to like some Linklater, he can be hit or miss by a wide margin). It ended up being pretty good. It wasn't amazing or anything. It didn't affect me the way the book did. But it was a serviceable adaptation. It's also been a very very long time since I've read the book. Last was Paprika. I didn't know much about it going in. It was okay. I lot of it felt incoherent in a sloppy way (vs dreamlike way). Made me think a lot of Inception (which I initially had similar thoughts of sloppiness that changed into more of an appreciation the more I thought about it, not that I think Inception is amazing or anything, just went from an initial impression of it being bad to pretty alright...just as an illustration that maybe I'll appreciate Paprika more if I think about it more? nothing's started jumping out yet though, I mean it's okay and all). So we got in late but not too too late for a drive-in marathon. But buzzing around in a little bit of a flurry this weekend with those last minute ground-level preparations for the festival that's less than a week away!

Likewise, there was an anime a couple years ago. Hrmm. Can't remember the name, but it feels like it was just to lead up to this epic weirdness when the cyberworld gets hacked. Something about "The world" in the title, but need to look it up...
