picked up a package at the post office yesterday: Miles Davis: The Complete On the Corner Sessions! (a hard and expensive motherfucker to come by...i eventually found it for not TOO bad from somewhere in Italy...it's weird how quickly that one went out of print...but the actual album's probably his best so i had to track the big, metal box down...) Mary Beth and i had a day at the movies...first we went to see True Grit and almost right after that we went to see Tron Legacy in 3D...i didn't realize we'd be in the midst of a Jeff Bridges marathon, but i guess that's what happened...both movies were good and not great...True Grit slightly let me down with its number of Hollywoodish tropes, but they didn't overwhelm and make me dislike it or anything...Tron looked like it was gonna be atrocious, but i actually ended up enjoying it (not to say it was flawless or anything, but it did surprise me in its not being terrible...and i want the soundtrack, which is another surprise 'cuz i've never liked Daft Punk at all before...) it looks like the videogame that accompanies it would have to be pretty awesome, but that's the whole point i guess...
a few minor things i forgot to mention: i almost thought we weren't gonna leave Rochester or at least not together...the tickets we'd gotten were super-cheap and from this weird website and for strange reasons we were unable to check in ahead of time...so we get there and the flight is overbooked by one seat...luckily for us a lady volunteered to get on another flight and all that so we were able to make it...both coming up and back the airline folks were very helpful in getting our lack of seating taken care of...and i also neglected to mention my coming back to Lapham's Quarterly Volume IV, Number 1 Winter 2011: Celebrity in the mail pile...
