been off in Rochester for the past week...let's see if i can remember stuff...

we left last wednesday, Jacques was kind enough to drive us to the airport...the trip up was pretty normal i guess...Mary Beth got sick while we were up there...the day after we arrived, for one night she had a fever and was bedridden, she's still sick but that was the only night she was abnormally so, the next day it turned into a cold...for the most part we just stayed in at Mary Beth's parents' house...there was snow the whole time we were there...it didn't snow much from the sky, the snow was mostly just there...we did go out on thursday, while Mary Beth was taking care of business at the bank i walked across the street to House of Guitar and spent a little time in the record store picking up Stevie Wonder: Songs in the Key of Life and John Coltrane: Kulu Sé Mama...the days leading up to christmas had relatives and friends of family coming over...oh, and Mary Beth's sister made a surprise arrival later in the evening we'd arrived...and i got a few things for christmas: a tie, a b&n gift card, an amazon thingie, and a nice fleece jacket...the days after christmas had a lot of Mary Beth's friends coming over to visit...and of course the whole time there was a lot of food being eaten...

the flight back was a bit eventful...well, actually it was normal for the most part but it was a bit eventful before we got on the first plane...i had the wonderful opportunity of opting out of the millimeter scan thingie...the tsa dudes seemed thrilled "we've got another opt out"...they actually try to hide the fact that they're sending you through the thing, the guy's just like "step this way please" as if you were just going through a different metal detector line (one of the lines have 'em and they pick like every other person or at least ever few people in that line to go through it instead of the metal detector)...so as it started looking different and all i was like "is this that uh...?" and the guy immediately said "are you opting out?" so i had to wait around a litlte bit while they found someone to do the search and got to listen to the tsa dudes complaining to each other about coworkers who tried to avoid this duty by acting like they were busy doing something else like searching bags and picking up said bags after being asked (you know, "hey we need a female to do a search" "oh, i can't i'm going through this bag right now" [picks up bag]...i'm sure it would have been even more amusing had i seen that interaction, but listening in on their complaining about it was amusing enough...anyway, so the guy finally comes over and i walk through to be patted down...he asked if i wanted to go to a private area but fuck that...it was funny too 'cuz during the process a little girl walked by with her mom and stopped and looked at me and was all "mommie, what are they doing?" the pat-down wasn't as bad as i thought it'd be...the guy had to announce everything he was doing and he kept referring to my "sensitive area"...he really didn't touch my junk...he said he was going to touch my thigh with the back of his hand and go up til there was no resistance...i was in a normal stance and my legs weren't spread apart, so my slightly wide thighs were touching and he didn't really try to make it all the way up...the weirdest part was when he stuck his fingers around the top of the inside of my pants...so yeah, air travel...anyway, landing back in Memphis was neat 'cuz i recognized a bunch of streets from the air: Summer on down south and i saw Melrose from the air! that was cool...

the cats were amazingly good while we were gone...no poop or nothin'! i'm so proud of Trudy...i had a package delivered last night with mostly some presents but a little something for me: Futurama: Volume 5...it is nice to be home...while we were away my uncle had a stroke so i'll probably be going to the hospital at some point...i don't know if there's anything else i should remember to mention...i'd gotten some more mail before we left: Martin Scorsese Collection (the Goodfellas one, it was super-super cheap online so i grabbed it up figuratively speaking...) anyway, aside from finally thinking about and getting ready for school starting up again, i can spend some nice time together with my lovely and slightly sick wife...oh, speaking of school reminds me of my own school: i checked my grades while away and i got 2 fuckin' As! i'm really surprised due to the half-assed work i'd done...i mean, i was sure i'd get at least Bs, but now i have a solid 4.0 for all of my classes for my certification...i'm pretty happy, and this semester had kicked my ass what with starting teaching and all...so yeah, that was exciting...needless to say i'm only taking one class at a time from now on...anyway, let's get back to vacation...
