last night i passed out for a couple hours 'cuz being awake hurt...then i woke up again...then went back to sleep, etc...really exciting stuff...i got some mail today: Soinic Youth: Rather Ripped MIssion of Burma: The Obliterati
yeah...even though the new Sonic Youth's a bit of a letdown...it's good, but probably my least favorite...i've only listened to it once though...hopefully the songs'll be improved upon live...i'm just into the second track of the new Mission of Burma...so far seems pretty on par with On Off On...
Oh I actually really like the new SY, but I'd say it's maybe in the middle for me. I definitely like it more than NYC ghosts and flowers and more than a thousand leaves and more than experimental jet set and probably more than sonic nurse too. maybe more than sister also. But then all the others I like more than it.
i like it, but...yeah, probably my least favorite...(though most of those you mentioned are what i consider superb! except Sonic Nurse, which i like a lot, probably the upper-crust of my lesser-favorites...of course i'm an unapologetic fanboy...) but i am sad that i probably like Rather Ripped less than Goo and Dirty (my former least-favorites...) maybe more listens and seeing them live will help my opinion of it...the kind of stadium-rock sound that'd been creeping in since Murray Street seems to have taken over all the way with this new one...it also seems to have hardly any of the subtlety and depth that i love this band so much for...
my second listening to Rather Ripped has proved much more hopeful...i think i took to it a bit more...not sure if it's still least-favorite or not...i guess i'll need a few more listens...it's still in the lower-half or whatever...but i was pleased to be less disappointed the second time around...
yeah, it's tied with sister for me. i think you had a poll on this ages ago actually, and keith was the only other person who agreed with me...i might have that wrong though; i have a notoriously shoddy memory...
and goo is my least favorite, though i've not heard all of them, and i find dirty and washing machine way overrated while experimental jet set... underrated (by indie fans, not mtv etc; maybe that's why indie fans dislike it actually, but whatever...).
i agree wholly about Experimental Jet Set, Trash and No Star being COMPLETELY underrated...it's a fucking GREAT record (i do have a personal bias as it was my first...and really this album singlehandedly changed my perspective on what music should/can sound like...still it IS a great record...) though i disagree with you about Washing Machine...for a while it was my favorite album some reason ago until i had a reawakening to Daydream Nation...it's one of my favorites...Confusion Is Sex is my second favorite now...
