Rock and Roll for President
Nov. 9th, 2000 02:56 pma big political debate broke out in the Sonic Youth newsgroup for some reason about the election and all...i was making it a point to not get involved as it is *extremely* off-topic...but this one guy just said the dumbest fucking thing about the electoral college...here is my respnose:
i was making a point to not get involved, but this is just too stupid...
> It gives the analogy to a world series: you don't decide the winner of
> the series by the number of total points of 7 games, you decide it by
> who wins the 7 games. Just because a team has one really good day
> doesn't mean it is the better team.
1. you're comparing STATES to BASEBALL GAMES! there's NO validity to
this analogy at ALL! States are geographical location, baseball games
are EVENTS! a state is NOT an event! they're not even close to
analogous!
> Similarly, a candidate should be
> elected on his nation-wide support, not just because they can make a
> really good appeal to a large number of voters.
2. ummm...how the hell does a candidate NOT have a nation-wide support
if he actually has the plurality of the actual votes of actual
citizens!? what you said makes no fucking sense in the slightest...

that's all for now...
