let me start off by saying that when i returned to my home, i found my computer had been removed from my room...so i'm like being punished 'til i get it clean or something...which is why i haven't started really updating yet...and will prob'ly be doing it more sporadically...as i have to go downstairs on my parents' computer...

but anyway...sunday night i hung out w/ Sheree in the homely town of Montgomery, AL...i'll later tell of all the wacky things i learned about the city...but now i'll talk more about the stuff i did...we went to this pizza place...had some pizza...found out about someone she knew's birthday party thing and went over to his house...he seemed reasonably cool...music was talked about...the next day was the Atlanta show...she couldn't get in touch w/ the ppl she was gonna have me stay w/ in Atlanta so i left my car there and drove w/ her, Eddie, and their friend Cleve, who i thought was a rather cool guy...when we got to the club's area ppl were already in line...but i had to record shop first...walking towards the record stores i passed Jim O'Rourke...i wished i could have thought of something to say to him but didn't...i got my chance later...when i went in Wax 'n' Facts for the second time (i went in there first, didn't see anything then went to Criminal records and came back and found some stuff...) Jim O'Rourke was there and i was in his was so i moved aside and said "excuse me"...now i'm hip...before the show i hit the merch tabel...got like 2 SY shirts and some stickers and this limited edition, numbered, autographed Thurston Moore book of poetry thing...(yea, i'm a fucking dork...) and an Erase Errata shirt as well as their cd as i mentioned previously...the show: Erase Errata were fucking amazing...they rocked the hell out of my socks...they played the rest of the shows too...it was a fucking joy to see them play each night...it was here that i realized that Mary Timony was playing the exact same set as the night before...(which she continued to do for the rest of the shows...) it was good but by the 4th night i started getting bored durring her set...then was Sonic Youth...Sheree and Eddie thought it wasn't as good as the New Orleans show...i thought it was better...then again, i wasn't about to pass out the whole show this time...i think i'll post all the set lists later when i've caught up as they're upstairs and not w/ me now...then back to Mongtomery where more sleep was had...the next morning i headed off for Athens...(driving through Atlanta again, but that's cool 'cuz it gave me the chance to do something i wasn't able to do the first time i went...) the Athens show was the best of the lot...the 40 Watt Club is a fuckin' awesome venue...oh yea...and when i got in town i first went to that record store i talked about and got some cds...one of the best record stores ever in spite of it's smallness...i also ate at a nearby restaurant...i'll say it again, the show that night was just fucking amazing...this time i was right up front on the stage...i could have given Thurston a hand job throughout the whole set...sometime durring the show, however, my camera stopped working...bollocks! i thought it was the battery and searched for that type of battery on the way to Raleigh...when i finally found one and changed batteries i found out that it wasn't the battery...it was the camera...so bollocks...after the Athens show i went to a nearby Huddle House and ate...then continued on to Raleigh...i stopped at a motel somewhere in Georgia and paid far too much for a room...then was the Raleigh show...the second best of the lot...Lee and Jim O'Rourke rolled Thurston out in a shopping cart and he grabbed the mic and said "we're the Swans from New York"...some pizza boy came up mentioned something about the after-show party...but his car was blasting early Beatles at full volume so i didn't pay much attention to him...then the singer for Erase Errata was made to announce something about it...the Sonic Youth after-show party or something...two bands were mentioned as well as "and some band from New York"...i figured it was prob'ly a hoax but didn't wanna risk missing out...and i was up for seeing shows and local bands at the local small venue...this place was called King's...it was easy to find...Raleigh's not too big...the first "band" was Nikki Shapiro...he played an electric piano thing and had some backing tracks on tape...(and he sang too) it was quite good...the way he sings is a lot like Thom Yorke...i bought his cd as you may have noticed...the next band was called Bordeaux (? something like that...they pronounced it Bar-doh i don't know how they spell that or whatever...) they were pretty good...they had this drunken dude heckling them...yelling "woo!" he had a huge schmelby and kept screaming stuff about rock and roll...and shouted for "Paranoid" as well...but there was no secret Sonic Youth show...in fact, there wasn't even a band from New York...just those two...i drove around (actually driving in cricles a few times...Raleigh's pretty small...) and once again paid too much for a motel...it was late so i asked about checking out later than 11am...i got a late checkout...then in the morning i headed to DC...i'll continue that in a later post...also, don't mind me if i keep adding stuff i forgot in future posts...a week's a lot of stuff to remember at once...yea...

Ah the 40 Watt...saw many a show there when I was going to school in Atlanta. I miss that place. saw Michael Stipe rockin' out at a Blonde Redhead and argued with my REM-obsessed friend whether it was him or not...fell asleep on one of the big couches listening to Cat Power fuck up like eight songs in a row...watched Mike Watt and crew rock out and blow people away despite no one recognizing any of the songs...saw the immortal Jesus Lizard on one of their final tours when the albums started sucking but the live show didn't...got to a Tortoise show (circa TNT) way late, got as bored as I could possibly get in five minutes and then we all went bowling...good times....man, I sound like an old fogey.
