Bardo Pond
Jun. 29th, 2002 06:27 amwell, i'm gonna recap the rest of the day too...it started when i woke up...then i went to class...then i went home...then i went back to sleep...then i went to work...(anyone notice any patterns developing here?) work was pretty interesting (well, not really...but i'll talk about it anyway...) i was there for a whole fucking hour before i even took an order...just sitting in the store washing dishes, not making money...but when i got back from my first run it had transformed into really fucking busy...so for the rest of the night i was constantly on the road...at one point, i even discovered the purpose of spoilers! i was in Harbor Town...i almost always look up the street before i leave when i go there, but for some reason (well, it was 'cuz it was busy and i was preoccupied) i just went w/out thinking about that...so i called the guy for directions but it didn't really help 'cuz his phone was crappy or something and it just sounded like a big garbled mess...but i got directions from a cop and was all good...when i got there, the guy was waiting for me outside...my phone was still in my hand so i set it on my trunk as i gave him his food...then i went to deliver the next order...i was wondering where my phone was when i remembered what i did w/ it...i looked in my mirror and luckily enough (very very very luckily) it was still sitting there on my trunk, being held on by the spoiler...i'm surprised it didn't fly off the side, considering the badittude w/ which i make turns...i drove more carefully to the next light where i hopped out and grabbed it...i was at work 'til a little after 10...but it'd say the last 45 min or so i spent in the store cleaning...(it's health inspection season so we're having to do more cleaning work...) so i guess i was actually driving for like 3.5 hrs of the 5 hrs i was there...i walked away w/ fucking $60...but i bribed Jolie $10 to cover the 12-2 shift for me so i wouldn't have to leave the show before Bardo Pond even started playing...after that, that left me w/ the standard of a decent night at $10 per hour (including all the time i was in the store not driving...) that's pretty sweet...afterwards i went over to Brad's...i called Jacques and he had changed his mind about going to the show "Bardo Pond's overrated"...twat...then i turn around and Brad's fucking pussied out on the show too..."i've seen 'em twice and i don't really have any money"...bitch...so i went alone...but the magnificent Kerry showed up not too much later...American Deathray Music wasn't too bad...on the first song, Nick Diablo was just playing organ and no guitar...it was an instrumental...i think he should stick w/ that...they had one song that was a tribute to "Road Runner"/"Sister Ray" i guess..."with the radio on" and "just like Sister Ray says" as well as lines simmilar to others in the songs appeared in it...of course their song wasn't nearly as good as either...(of course "Sister Ray" is THE greatest song that was ever written by someone other than Sonic Youth...but "Road Runner" isn't so high in the scheme of things...though it is a wonderful song...) then Bardo Pond played...quite good...they did "Be a Fish" and "Tommy Gun Angel" and some other song that sounded familiar but i couldn't put a name to...i realized that when i saw 'em at ATP and thought they did "Limerick" it was actually "Tommy Gun Angel"...i can get 'em confused...oh well...i really want to see them do "Limerick" live though...as it's their best song...one of the best songs ever...but "Be a Fish" and "Tommy Gun Angel" are my other two favorite songs of theirs...so that was nice..."Be a Fish" sounded different than on the album, but it still ruled...(different can be nice...) oh yea, it was really loud...i wish i had remembered to bring ear plugs...afterwards i started to leave but went back in to hit the merch table...i got a shirt and some cds...Bardo Pond: the new ep ("Orange Horse"/"Thalay Sagar (Torture Tortures)"), Vol. II, and Vol. 3; and Providence: 27.4.97 (this is a live ep by "Dave Pearce from Flying Saucer Attack, Jason DiEmilio and Jason Knight from the Azusa Plane and Carl Hultgren from Windy & Carl with the brothers Gibbons from Bardo Pond joining in on the second track.") it was the guitarist (Michael, i think...) and the bassist...they super nice guys...the bassist asked me if i was from here and said it was a nice town...i couldn't really think of anything to say back though...the guitarist gave me the Providence ep...(i had misquoted the price of one of the cds i bought, i said $10 instead of $15 and he was like well it's $15 but that's okay...i had also said something about the ep (which was $5) and he said i could get that for free w/ the other cd...coolness...) and the amount of money i spent was exactly what was in my wallet...horray for free stuff! it's even cooler when the actual band members give it to you...they also were really thankful...oh yea! and the guitarist complimented me on my shirt...(i was and still am wearing my "MOGWAI JESUS KNIFE" shirt...)
then i went over to Brad's...it was him, Mary, Leah, and Robbie...sitting around...Leah left, Brad went to bed w/out saying goodnight...oh, at one point, Brad was dancing to Jordy and fell on the floor...funny stuff...i sat around for a while talking w/ Robbie...he borrowed me Alice in Wonderland...i dunno how long it'll be before i get around to reading it...but i have been interested in reading it...now i'm home...i accidentally left my phone over there...(better than smashed on the curb somewhere in Harbor Town, i guess...) i had also meant to deposit my check on the way home, but i forgot...i need to...my bank account's almost on empty...
