ateolf: (the goat...BITCH!)
So the big package from Germany came in the mail yesterday! It contained the massive box set Zoviet France: Châsse ∴ (which is sort of a mega-box contained three smaller box sets) as well as the E.g Oblique Graph: Complete Oblique 1980-1983 box set. Now, the Zoviet France box comes with these very fancy wooden boxes. It is very nice but the only problem is when I opened mine, the lid on the big outer box had one side completely cracked and broken off. So that put a little damper on my excitement, but I'm still excited about the music. I emailed the guy who runs the label about it, but (as he's notoriously testy) he got mad at me for even bothering to message him about it this week as he "clearly stated" he was taking care of other things this week and to wait til next week. Okay! It is excited to get this as all their stuff's been difficult to get over the years and I've only managed to get one cd (that I've cherished dearly)! So now...boom! All their shit I've been hoping to get! And for the E.g Oblique Graph...that's Bryn Jones's project before Muslimgauze so very excited about this one too! It also came with an E.g Oblique Graph t-shirt (and a turntable cover...they simultaneously put out a vinyl and a cd version of this box and it's funny the cd boxes got that bit of merch too).

At night, Mary Beth and I went up to Crosstown for this monthly jazz night thing they're doing. Alex (who played saxophone in the electroacoustic ensemble) runs it and his band plays a few tunes and then they have this sign-up thing where anyone can sign up and come up and play on these songs they choose. Mostly pretty standard jazz standard fare but it was nice. They did a version of "All Blue" though I felt they made it a little too fast/upbeat...but I liked at the end when the two trombonists (yes, this one had two trombones...the only one that did) had little duel. Also towards the end they did a big rendition of "Impressions" where they got as many who wanted to come up and join in (for the rest it was people sign up for individual songs and stuff so this was more of a free-for-all). When the singers came up and scatted for a bit that was a little out-of-place on this one (as well as the guy playing washboard), but it was mostly very good and it was my favorite part.
