In the early part of the day, I went and did a run around town to scour through used stuff. I swung by Burke's and got a few books: Home by Toni Morrison, The Debut by Anita Brookner, Monkey Bridge by Lan Cao, Nights at the Circus by Angela Carter, Serve the People! by Yan Lianke, and In Hazard by Richard Hughes. While there I also put in a pre-order request for the upcoming Pynchon novel! Then I went to the two antique malls out in Bartlett, mostly tediously rummaging through the scattered cd bins but I didn't find anything there. I did get a bunch of new-old-stock blank cassettes from one booth. The Goner booth got rid of their cd bin (it was doubtful I would have found something there this time anyway and I know my last run got the few interesting things, but still...sad seeing the option gone). Then I finished off by swinging by Shangri-La and picking up a few used cds: Unwed Sailor: The Faithful Anchor, Unwed Sailor: The Marionette and the Music Box, William Hooker: Radiation, and Milford Graves: Percussion Ensemble. Then back at home. Mary Beth had made some cookies and I ated some. She'd had some plans for her birthday but because of her leg most of them were deferred. She is demonstrably getting better. Now when she walks around she actually walks with a limp (instead of hopping or hobbling around). Still trying to take it easy so as not to get set back when so close to the end. We did spend a little time outside hanging out with Peanut. The big birthday activity that did stay was watching Nostalghia at night. I hadn't seen it and it was really good, I'd say among his best (and kind of like an amalgamation of all his other movies).
