Mary Beth and I went to this queer art fair at Ghost River but didn't stay long. Then we went to this record fair at another alcohol place downtown and also did not stay there long (wasn't expecting much from that one but it's fun to at least see...but ultimately the one booth with some cds just has blues and classic rock...sometimes there's stuff worth finding in that sort of bin...but rarely). Then we ran some errands and went to Lowe's and the Mediterranean Grocery. After we had dinner Mary Beth wanted to try that tiki bar again, but even though we went much earlier it was still packed and we couldn't get a place to sit. Then a little later she decided to try more on a whim this other bar she'd vaguely heard about called Memphis Whistle. We went there and it was just what she was looking for. It's just in an old Midtown house and feels like you're in a house (I mean, there's a proper bar, but it still all has that Midtown house feeling). And there are side rooms you can hang out in too (kind of like Molly Fontaine's but more low-key, though we sat at the bar 'cuz we saw that first). Anyway, we hung out there for a while. As Mary Beth said, it's something that feels like a Midtown that's been dying away (at least as far as businesses to go to). Oh yeah, and there was also a cat named Edgar (they said it's a neighbor's cat but he comes in there all the time and they feed him and he hangs out...he's a big floofy black cat). In my last post I forgot to mention that I finished reading Snow by Orhan Pamuk on Friday and it was pretty good, it took a very long time as my reading was mostly interrupted in the weeks during and leading up to the festival!
