I think I have the out-of-town musicians lined up for Memphis Concrète this year. It's a very small number, but pretty excited as one of them (who I've never seen or met in person) had my favorite album of last year! So more on that later. At night Mary Beth and I went to a show at DKDC. It was quite a good show. Hater Group Chat was up first and they were good, but a really weird thing happened during their set! This woman just passed out and fell over onto the floor right in front of the door (I think she was at the bar or at least near it). The people who were next to her started taking care of it immediately, but still at first while they're helping her out she's just laying there completely inert. After a little bit of time the band noticed something was going on and they stopped playing, but then the bartender told them to keep playing. And everyone around her was acting like things were under control. They got her up and took her outside. I couldn't see this from where I was, but she apparently started throwing up after she got outside. And she ended up being okay. A while later into their set the bartender came up to the band and handed Corbin a note which I later learned said that they were too loud and needed to be quieter. (Sure they were noisy and a little loud, but I've been in there with rock bands playing where it was much louder.) Next up was Artificer and their set was great as always. I spotted what I thought was a new piece of gear and sure enough, Jay said their sister gave them the Stylophone synth thing for Christmas (it was put to good use!). Then it was Outside Source and his set was really good. And last Dave Collins and Schaeffer Mallory played kinda free jazz interpretations of the music of Erik Satie (guitar and drums). It was very good. Sometimes quiet and very Satie-like and sometimes more explosive and sometimes with an expansive kinda Western thing. And when they hit the first Gymnopédie, the audience hooted for the hit! (I hooted internally.) After the show Mary Beth and I went home and stayed up to eat some chips and cheese dip and hang out and talk just a little bit. Woke up this morning and it's snowing outside. It's very light and not sticking to anything, but pretty to see.
