Percussion

Mary Beth and I went to see Tatsuya Nakatani at DKDC last night! We got there a wee bit early so we got a good table, there were a couple others there too (Alex and Jacques). Since we had a table, I went ahead and bought some merch first thing. Got a new t-shirt and a cd: Sara(.Es)\Tatsuya Nakatani\Otomo Yoshihide\Shin'ichi Isohata\Toshiji Mikawa: Soul Boat. Starting off, it was Chad Fowler on saxophone and David Collins on guitar. They played for a bit, really good, and then Tatsuya Nakatani came and joined them on the drums. Then they took a break between sets. After coming back it was Tatsuya solo for more of the droning percussion side of things. He played a good long set. Then Chad and David came back and played some more with him. Also, Art Edmaiston had shown up and joined them on saxophone (Art happens to be playing the Memphis Concrète show that will be this Saturday). Then that group played a little bit longer (Tatsuya kept it pretty minimal here and was mostly resting after expending so much energy during his solo set). Anyway, great show! Now I've taken off work today for this meeting I have about the festival next year... We'll see how it goes!
