ateolf: (me and Leala)
Had a pretty marvelous day with Mary Beth yesterday. First off we went over to the Dixon. A lot of what was there we'd seen at the flower show, but there were some differences. The exhibit in the local artists hallway was different and all works by Sowgand Sheikholeslami and it was really incredible stuff (I mean, it pretty much always is) so was happy to see it. Then the main exhibit, which was mostly combined in with the flower show was mostly the same, a big exhibit just about local artists. But for the flower show there were sections that were taken up by a photography contest and stuff so still a good chunk of it wasn't out at that time so we still got to see some more and it was all really good, and it was still good seeing what we'd seen before (and this time seeing the Kong Wee Pang...now we actually have two of her paintings! well, they'll be in our possession I think around the end of this month when that exhibition is over, but yeah, cool to think about of course!). Then as we're leaving and walking down the path towards the exit, we see Oliver walking towards us and then into the bushes and stuff. We watch him be all attentive to his cat duties and then after a couple minutes he's stopped and turns around and sees us looking at him so he comes over and we got another Oliver petting session! I'd sat on a bench and after a little bit he jumped onto the bench too and cuddled up to us and then sat on my lap for a good while! It was very special and magical and now I think we can safely say that we are Oliver's friends. When we finally left, I had his fur all over me. We made a quick stop by Macy's so I could pick up a new pillow (very luxurious going to sleep last night with a fresh new fluffed-up pillow!). Then having seen that play about hot wings the other night, we had some cravings for wings. We tried a few places. First I was ordering them from Ching's and at first the option to place the order was there, but then I guess while I was still putting the order in we went past the cutoff and then by the time I was finished it wouldn't let me place the order (they close pretty dang early now). Then we decided we'd try the place that was mentioned in the play. I didn't mention it before, but they mentioned how this hot wing place donated the wings that were used in the play. Well, okay that's nice. But then it turns out the name of the team in the play (it's about a hot wing contest) is the same name as that business and they even worked in a joke or two around the name. So it felt like this weird infused marketing thing, which was a bit weird. But anyway, we were kinda like fuck it we'll just try it as our second choice. It's mostly a food truck but then they have a place downtown on Beale St. which isn't the most appealing prospect, but whatever. We'll give it a try. But we get down in that area and I see droves of people all around and it seems like there's probably an event at the Forum that evening. We try to park and sure enough, we're only getting extortionist fixed "event" rates so we're like fuck that. Then we go back home and take option number three: the easy choice of just ordering some wings from Huey's. So we got them back home and chowed them down while watching The Simpsons. We got fulled up on wings and it was good.
