Tape Release Show
Aug. 21st, 2023 07:55 amOkay, I worked a little more on the music for the show yesterday afternoon, added some more very small touches. And then packed things up. Oh, and I must say that the second chance I'd given Fulfillingness' First Finale paid off as I do like it more now. It's still probably the least good in his run of great albums but now I can enjoy it! (I consider his run of great albums to most definitely include Journey through the Secret Life of Plants...at some point I may try expanding out and trying Hotter than July, still haven't tried it out yet, but "Master Blaster" is a really great song...I'm not expecting the whole album to be so good, but you never know! one day I give it a shot...and even if it's like a case of "Straight to Hell" sitting on Combat Rock, then it's probably still worth it! but hey, still haven't even gotten to my recently acquired Combat Rock to give the whole album a shot so I shouldn't even knock it so soon...).
Okay, then the show. Got up to the Hi Tone and started setting up. We crowded up that little stage with all our equipment. It had us just a little bit behind, but then we caught back up because transitions were quick. Pyrrhic Vic (Ryan) was up first doing his acoustic guitar songs with lots of flamenco styling. It was really good! He even closed with a cover of "Motion Picture Soundtrack" that he dedicated to me, aww! Next up was Artificer and they were absolutely incredible as always. Then it was Revenge Body and he pursued an idea he got from Terry Riley and just had a lot of the song "You're No Good" mixed with his radio and Boss half-rack delays and internal laptop effects and it was some Motown-esque pop with lots of noise. Then I was last with my Prophet-driven set (fed into the modular and with a couple footswitches to control reverb and wave folder). I think it went alright. I seem to have drive a bunch of people out (or they just had to go, no biggie!) which is amusing. It was ostensibly a tape release show so I busted out the merch table, which I almost never bother to do but then I was reminded why I never bother! (I don't bring that up in a pitying sort of way, once again, just a bit amusing.)
I came home to find some sodas that look handmade that had been dropped off by Josh. It's a birthday present! One pack is raspberry rhubarb ramble and the other is maple. (I am excited!) Jay had inspired Mary Beth with their talk of their post-show tradition of chips and dip so Mary Beth did that and I joined in. Then, finally, bed! (It's like, even when the show is early enough to be able to get to bed on time, the show adrenaline jumps in and thwarts you anyway!)
